The Effect of Operating Room Nurse Visit on Surgical Patient’ Anxiety

Abstract

ÖZET

Cerrahi girişim geçirecek hastaların çoğunluğu anksiyete yaşamaktadır. Ameliyat öncesi dönemde hasta ziyareti anksiyeteyi azaltabilmektedir.Tanımlayıcı ve yarı deneysel olan çalışmanın amacı ameliyat öncesi dönemde ameliyat hemşiresi ziyaretinin hastanın anksiyetesi üzerine etkisini değerlendirmektir. Araştırmanın örneklemini ürolojik ameliyat geçirecek 40 olgu, 40 kontrol grubu hastası olmak üzere toplam 80 hasta oluşturdu. Araştırmanın verileri hastanın bireysel ve cerrahi girişim sürecine yönelik bilgilerini içeren kişisel bilgi formu ile anksiyetesini değerlendiren STAI-TX-1 (Durumluluk Kaygı Envanteri) ile toplandı. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde tanımlayıcı istatistikler, Mann Whitney U testi, Kruskal Wallies Varyans analizi, Ki kare ile Fisher’s Exact testi kullanıldı. Çalışmada olgu grubu hastalarının %57,5’inin, kontrol grubunun %62,5’inin daha önce cerrahi girişim geçirdiği, olgu grubunun %57,5’i ile kontrol grubunun %55’inin daha önce anestezi aldığı bulundu. Kontrol grubu hastalarının olgu grubuna göre anestezi işlemi sırasında ağrı hissetme ve endişe duyma ile yanlarında aile bireylerinden birisinin olmaması oranlarının daha yüksek olduğu belirlendi (p<0,05). Her iki grup arasında STAI-TX-1 ölçeği puan ortalamaları arasında fark belirlenmezken (p>0,05), anestezi türü hakkında bilgi sahibi olan kontrol grubu hastalarının STAI-TX-1 puan ortalamasının anlamlı düzeyde düşük olduğu, cerrahi girişim sonrasında kontrol grubu hastalarının STAI-TX-1 puan ortalamasının daha yüksek olduğu, il merkezinde yaşayan ve ameliyat ile ilgili endişeleri olan hastaların ameliyat öncesi dönemde STAI-TX-1 puan ortalamasının arttığı saptandı. Bu doğrultuda, ürolojik cerrahi girişim geçiren ve ameliyata yönelik endişe yaşayan hastaların ameliyathane hemşiresi tarfından ziyaret edilmesi önerilmektedir.

ABSTRACT

The majority of patients undergoing surgical intervention experience anxiety. In the pre-operative period, patient visit can reduce anxiety. The aim of this descriptive and semi-experimental study is to evaluate the effect of operating room nurse visit on surgical patient’ anxiety. The universe of the study consisted of total of 80 patients, including 40 case and 40 control group, who would undergo urological surgery. The data were collected with the Personel Information Form, which contains information about the individual and surgical process of the patient, and the STAI-TX-1 (Status Anxiety Inventory), which evaluates anxiety. Data were evaluated by using descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis Variation analysis, Fisher's Exact test and chi-square test. In the study, it was found that 57.5% of the case and 62.5% of the control group had undergoing surgery before, and 57.5% of the case and 55% of the control group had previously received anesthesia. In the control group, it was determined that they had a higher rate of feeling pain and anxiety during the anesthesia procedure and not having one of the family members with them (p<0.05). It was found that the STAI-TX-1 score average of control group with knowledge of the type of anesthesia was significantly lower, the STAI-TX-1 score average of control group was higher after surgical intervention, and the STAI-TX-1 score average increased in the pre-operative period of patients living in the city center and had concerns about surgery. In this way, it is recommended that patients undergoing urological surgery and experiencing anxiety should be visited by the operating room nurse.
