ABSTRACT
In the experimental study, different types of waste (walnut shell, hazelnut shell and plastic bottles) were collected, and two waste samples (1st sample and 2nd sample) were prepared with different ratios of waste types. These prepared waste samples were processed in a microwave assisted pyrolysis system at a working power of 750 W for 30 minutes. Nitrogen gas at the rate of 0.3 L/min was used to remove oxygen from the reaction medium in the microwave assisted pyrolysis system. Biodiesel quality was tried to be improved by subjecting the pyrolytic oils formed as a result of microwave assisted pyrolysis process to filtration, extraction and distillation processes. After the remediation processes, biodiesel fuels obtained from two different waste samples were mixed with standard diesel fuel at the rates of 10%, 20% and 30% to form N1 and N2 fuels. Subsequently, biodiesel fuels were used in a single-cylinder low-power diesel engine at different engine loads (250, 500, 750 and 1000 W). Engine performance and
exhaust emission values (CO, HC and CO2) of the fuels used in the engine at different loads were investigated. Although there is a certain increase in the CO emission values of the N1 and N2 fuels, which were created as a result of the experimental studies, compared to the standard diesel fuel, a decrease was observed in general. For HC emission values, it has been observed that the N1 and N2 fuels created provide a significant decrease in HC emissions compared to standard diesel fuels.
