Abstract:
ABSTRACT
The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between school culture and teachers' academic optimism levels. The research was designed in the relational survey model. Research data were collected from 401 primary, secondary and high school teachers in Çaycuma district of Zonguldak province. Data were collected with the School Culture Scale and the Academic Optimism Scale. In the analysis of the data, t-test, ANOVA test, and correlation and regression analyzes were used.
According to the results of the research, no significant difference was found in terms of gender in terms of self-efficacy, academic emphasis, success, task, support and role. However, a statistically significant difference was found between the scores of the trust sub-dimension of men and women. The scores obtained from the sub-dimensions of the school culture and academic optimism scales do not seem to differ significantly in terms of educational status. In addition, it is revealed that there is no significant difference between the scores of the academic optimism and school culture scales' self-efficacy, academic emphasis, success and support sub-dimensions in terms of professional seniority of teachers. However, a significant difference was found between the scores of the sub-dimensions of duty and role according to the seniority groups of the individuals.
Finally, positive moderate relations were found between school culture dimensions and academic optimism dimensions. The success culture dimension of school culture predicts the self-efficacy, confidence and academic emphasis dimensions of teachers' academic optimism. However, the task culture dimension was found to be a predictor of teachers' self-efficacy.
