ABSTRACT
Additive manufacturing (AD) is a manufacturing method that facilitates the production of complex shaped parts that are difficult to manufacture with the traditional manufacturing method. In this method, parts are produced by stacking the material in layers using the 3D data of the model. Fusion Deposition Modeling (FDM) method is the most widely used additive manufacturing method in the production of parts from thermoplastic materials.
In this study, it is aimed to compare the mechanical properties of the parts with different infill geometry and density produced from PLA material. For this purpose, parts with different infill geometries (Octet, Gyroid and Cross) were modeled to be produced by the FDM method. In infill geometries, the unit cell size was chosen to be 5×5×5 mm, and test samples were produced with 50%, 30% and 20% relative density values. In order to investigate the mechanical behavior of these parts, tensile, compression and impact tests were carried out and the most suitable unit cell structure was determined in terms of the compared mechanical properties. In general, it was observed that the mechanical properties of all fill geometries deteriorated with the increase of the relative density. While the highest tensile strength was obtained in the Octet infill geometry structure, the highest deformation was observed in the Cross infill geometry sample.
