AKADEMİSYENLİKTEN YÖNETİCİLİĞE BİR PORTRENİN ANLATISI: PROF. DR. BURHANETTİN UYSAL

Abstract

ÖZ Toplumda öncü olmuş bir ismi gelecek nesillere tanıtırken, onu birkaç özelliğiyle anlatmak yeterli olmayabilir. Prof. Dr. Burhanettin UYSAL; yaptığı çalışmalar ile Karabük’ün, Türkiye’de hatta Dünya’nın farklı ülkelerinde de tanınan bir il haline gelmesinde önemli rol oynamıştır. Birçok özelliğiyle ön plana çıkmış olan UYSAL, bir akademisyen olmanın yanı sıra liderlik ve yöneticilik kimliği ile anılan öncü bir isimdir. Bu tez çalışmasının amacı ise, bir dönem akademisyenlik ve yöneticilik yapmış olan ve kısa sürede yaptığı çalışmalarıyla adından söz ettiren UYSAL’ın, akademisyenlik ve yöneticilik dönemlerine tanıklık etmiş bireylerin kişisel deneyimlerinin incelenmesidir. Bu bağlamda, yapılacak olan çalışma, UYSAL’ın iş hayatındaki başarısını, benimsediği değerleri ve aile yaşamı hakkındaki bilgileri gelecek nesillere aktarmayı amaçlamaktadır. Kişisel deneyimlerin incelenmesi, geçmişe ait anıların öne çıkarılması ve katılımcıların anlatımlarından yola çıkarak bir bellek taraması yapılmak istenmiştir. Dolayısıyla bu araştırma, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden anlatı araştırması deseni şeklinde yürütülmüştür. Bu araştırma yönteminin seçilme nedeni, Karabük ilinde yaşamış ve Karabük Üniversitesi’nde çalışmış ve dünden bugüne UYSAL’a tanıklık etmiş olan katılımcıların deneyimlerini dinlemek ve o döneme ait yaşam öykülerini bugüne yansımalarıyla birlikte kronolojik bir sırayla incelenmek istenmesidir. Bu çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre, başarıları ile ön plana çıkmış UYSAL’ın en önemli özellikleri olarak; insanlara değer vermesi, zamanı iyi kullanması, hedef odaklı olması, çalışkan olması, dürüst olması, vatansever olması, vizyoner olması, risk alma konusunda cesaretli olması ve özgüven sahibi olması gösterilmektedir. UYSAL’ın sadece yöneticilikte değil aynı zamanda eğitim alanında da örnek bir kişilik olduğu saptanmıştır. Ek olarak, iyi bir yöneticide bulunması gereken bazı özelliklerin gelecek nesillere aktarılması açısından bu çalışmanın literatüre katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir. Ayrıca bu çalışma, Karabük Üniversitesi’nin kurumsal belleğinin kayıt altına alınmasının sağlanmasında tarihsel bir rol üstlenmiştir.

ABSTRACT While introducing a pioneer in society to future generations, it may not be enough to describe him with just a few characteristics. Prof. Dr. Burhanettin UYSAL played an important role in making Karabuk a well-known city in Turkey and even in different countries of the world through with his works. UYSAL, who has come to the fore with many features, is a pioneering name known for his leadership and managerial identity as well as being an academician. The aim of this thesis study is to examine the personal experiences of UYSAL, who was an academician and manager for a period and who has made a name for himself with his works in a short time, and individuals who witnessed his academic and managerial periods. In this context, the study to be carried out aims to transfer UYSAL’s success in business life, the values he adopted and the information about his family life to future generations. It was desired to examine personal experiences, to highlight memories of the past, and to conduct a memory scan based on the participants' narratives. Therefore, this research was carried out in the form of narrative research design, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The reason for choosing this research method is to listen to the experiences of the participants who lived in Karabük and worked at Karabük University, who have witnessed UYSAL from past to present, and to examine the life stories of that period in chronological order with their reflections on the present. As results of this study, as the most important features of UYSAL, which has come to the fore with its achievements; Valuing people, using time well, being goal-oriented, hardworking, honest, patriotic, visionary, courageous in taking risks and self-confidence are shown. It has been determined that UYSAL is an exemplary personality not only in management but also in the field of education. In addition, it is thought that this study will contribute to the literature in terms of transferring some of the characteristics that a good manager should have to future generations. Moreover, this study has assumed a historical role in recording the institutional memory of Karabuk University.
