ABSTRACT
Magnesium (Mg) alloys, which have a wide range of uses thanks to their low density and special strength (strength/weight), are among the interesting materials. Mg alloys, which are used in automobile construction materials, especially to reduce fuel consumption, have positive effects on our lives. However, the weak corrosion resistance of Mg alloys narrows their application areas, especially in biomedical products. It is known that hot rolling and the resulting fine microstructure increase corrosion resistance. In addition, passive film coatings or alloy additions can be used to increase the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys.
Corrosion resistance in AZ series Mg alloys varies according the quantity of Al in the composition. As the amount of Al increases, the corrosion resistance increases. There are studies such as heat treatment method, alloying and thermomechanical treatments to improve the object's resistance to corrosion of AZ31 Mg alloys. However, there are few studies on effects of rarity earth elements (REE) on the corrosion resistance properties of AZ31 Mg alloys.
In particular, studies on the corrosion resistance of AZ31 Mg alloys containing the rolled La element are almost non-existent. In this study, the effects of alloying element, rolling parameters and shot peening on the corrosion resistance of rolled Mg alloys containing AZ31, AZ31+0.2% La will be discussed. How the changes in the microstructure of La element affect the corrosion resistance of the secondary phases it forms, for example, will be examined in detail. In addition, the effects of 15% rolling rate and 1.5 to 4.7 m/sec rolling speed parameters used in the production of the plates examined in this study on both mechanical properties and corrosion resistance will be examined. Air pressure and spraying time will be changed in ball spraying process. Thanks to this project, it is possible to improve the corrosion resistance property of AZ31 Mg alloy with low corrosion resistance but high formability among AZ series Mg alloys and to obtain positive results in terms of economic and environmental factors.
