ABSTRACT
This study investigated the oxidation and hot wear behaviour of oxide-dispersed Ni-based MA6000 superalloys. MA6000 superalloys were produced in a planetary-type mill using mechanical milling/mechanical alloying (MM/MA). Yttrium oxide (Y2O3) and niobium carbide (NbC) phases were added to the nickel (Ni) matrix as reinforcement phase, 0.6%, 1.2%, 1.8% and 2.4% by weight. The produced MA6000, MA6000 + X% Y2O3 and MA6000 + X% NbC superalloy powders were preformed by cold pressing in a uniaxial die. Bulk samples were sintered in a vacuum environment of 10-6 mbar. The metallographic processes of the produced superalloy samples were performed. Microstructure investigations, density and hardness properties of superalloys were determined. Abrasion tests were carried out on a "block-on-ring" type wear device in ASTM G77 standard. In wear tests, 5N, 10N and 15N loads, 200m, 400m, 600m, 800m and 1000m slip distance, 1 m/s-1 slip with test temperatures of 20 °C, 100 °C, 200 °C, 300 °C and 400 °C speed parameters are used.
As a result of the studies, it was determined by XRD analysis that γ′ phases and carbide phases, which are expected to be in microstructure and increase strength, are formed. It was observed that the theoretical, experimental and relative density decreased with the increase in the amount of Y2O3 reinforcement phase. In NbC-reinforced superalloys, however, there was no significant change in the theoretical density with the increase in the reinforcement phase. In contrast, the experimental and relative densities decreased. It was determined that the hardness of the superalloy samples increased with the increase in the amount of both reinforcement phases, while the hardness of the Y2O3 reinforced superalloys was higher. In the wear tests, it was observed that the weight losses and wear rates increased with the increase in applied load, sliding distance and temperature. It was determined that the superalloy samples' weight loss and wear rate decreased despite the increase in the reinforcement phase. The friction coefficient, on the other hand, followed an almost horizontal course while the sliding distance increased. As the applied load increased, the friction coefficient decreased. Despite the increase in the amount of reinforcement phase, the coefficient of friction also increased. As the wear temperature increased, the coefficient of friction decreased. Oxidation increased with increasing temperature. |
