The literature on distance education and school effectiveness concepts was examined. Qualitative research method was used in the research. The population of the research; It consists of 9 faculty members working in the Faculty of Engineering and Literature at Karabük University in the 2022-2023 academic year and 9 students studying in the Faculty of Engineering and Literature. The data was obtained with a semi-structured interview form, which is a qualitative data collection tool. Data were obtained using content analysis.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected many sectors around the world, but its effects on the education system have been quite pronounced. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, education in higher education institutions continued with the distance education model. According to the results of the research, in the compulsory distance education implemented during the pandemic period, faculty members and students experienced limitations in terms of communication during the course. Both faculty members and students experienced loss of motivation, but students felt these motivation losses more deeply. Students who took applied courses via distance education experienced learning losses. Faculty members, on the other hand, experienced difficulties in presenting applied courses via distance education. Students experienced problems arising from technical aspects and exam planning in the exams taken during the distance education process. During the pandemic period, the validity and reliability of the measurement and evaluation process was negatively affected. Participants agreed that distance education is not an alternative education model to face-to-face education and suggested that it can only be included in our education system to a certain extent.
