ABSTRACT
In this study, the microstructural and mechanical properties of polymer composites produced by adding carbon nanotubes to high density polyethylene material at 4 different ratios (0.125%, 0.250%, 0.5% and 1%) were investigated. Within the scope of the study, in order to prevent agglomeration of carbon nanotube and to obtain a homogeneous mixture, high density polyethylene and carbon nanotube were mixed with 3 different methods as cubic mixing, acetone mixing and acid surface modification process and then composites were produced by single screw extrusion and injection moulding, respectively. The microstructure examinations of the produced composite materials were examined by scanning electron microscopy and their mechanical properties were determined by tensile test and three-point bending test. As a result of the study, it was found that the tensile and flexural strength increased with the addition of CNT in cubic mixing and acetone mixing methods, and
the highest strength values in tensile and flexural tests were measured in composites with 0.5% CNT addition mixed with acetone. In the CNT/ HDPE composites produced by surface modification with acid, there was a decrease in tensile and three-point bending strength values compared to the base material. It was observed that agglomeration occurred in the microstructure of the composites produced with increasing carbon nanotube reinforcement, and it was seen that the tensile strength of composites with 1% CNT addition decreased due to agglomeration due to increasing carbon nanotube amount. |
