ABSTRACT
In plastic injection molding, which is one of the mass production methods, cooling efficiency is a crucial factor influencing cost and part quality. This study focuses on the stem, one of the parts of a lotion pump produced using the plastic injection method. The stem part is manufactured using cores obtained through traditional manufacturing methods. The production time for the stem is higher than expected, considering the shape and size of the part. Cooling channels are positioned away from the product area due to the edge gate entry on the cavity and the movable slider on the core. This positioning contributes to the extended production time. In order to reduce the cooling time, conformal cooling channel designs were developed for core and cavity. Effective cooling channels were determined by conducting filling analyses for the prepared channels. As conformal cooling channels cannot be
produced using traditional manufacturing methods, metal additive manufacturing was employed to produce the mold cores.
According to the analysis results, the cycle time for conformal cooling channels is approximately 6.16% shorter than that of traditional cooling channels. In production trials, the cycle time for conformal cooling channels is approximately 31.74% shorter than that of traditional cooling channels. |
