ABSTRACT
The heat treatment and coating process, which is the critical process of bolt/screw production, is one of the leading experimental development activities in the sector when the metallographic microstructure of the cold formed material is evaluated in terms of both process efficiency and product performance criteria. In the thesis study, it is aimed to investigate the microstructure of drawn 20MnB4 raw material after cold forging, heat treatment and coating processes. A total of 8 samples, 7 of 20MnB4 raw material and 1 of QST32 raw material with different diameters, were produced in the pressing machine and threaded in the thread rolling machine. Because of QST32 raw material is frequently used like 20MnB4 raw material, 2 raw materials were compared. Raw materials were subjected to tensile test. All samples were coated in different coatings. All samples were subjected to corrosion tests for 48, 72, 96 hours in order to measure the corrosion behaviour. Weight losses were measured at the end of the test.
In addition, hardness and torque values of the samples were determined to correlate
with the tensile and salt test results. Finally, optical images of all samples were taken and their microstructures were analysed using optical microscopy. In the process, metallographic examination of the product resulting from the heat treatment process carried out in the belt (continuous) heat treatment furnace; microstructure examination
after heat treatment, hardness examination were explained with the yield-tension test diagram. Under normal conditions, it was observed that the zintec coated sample produced from 20MnB4 raw material provided the conditions better.
