ABSTRACT
This study aimed to improve the properties of polybutylene succinate (PBS)-based composites by using bone powder (KT) and hydroxyapatite (HAP), which are different
inorganic reinforcement materials. Three different compatibilizers were used to solve
the surface incompatibility problems between the polymer matrix and fillers. The materials used as compatibilizers in this study are thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and maleic-grafted-polypropylene (MA-g-PP). Mechanical, morphological, wear and thermal properties of composites has been examined. XRD, XRF, SEM and FTIR spectroscopy methods were used to characterize the surface functionalities of KT and HAP powders and to elucidate their
morphological properties and chemical structure. Composite mixtures were manufactured using the melt mixing method in a twin screw extruder. The mechanical,
thermal, wear, water absorption and morphological properties of composite materials
shaped by injection molding were characterized using tensile, hardness, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), forward-backward wear test, water absorption and
field-effect scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) tests, respectively. According to
the results obtained, the use of TPU as a compatibilizer positively affects the mechanical, wear, water absorption and thermal properties of both KT and HAP filled
composite materials. It has been observed that MA-g-PP used as a compatibilizer negatively affects the thermal properties of the composites. |
