ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to examine the effects of eating behavior disorder, eating addiction and physical activity on obesity in adult individuals applying to Bartın Community Health Center. The study was conducted with a total of 350 individuals, 294 women and 56 men, who applied to Bartın Community Health Center between December 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023. A questionnaire form consisting of 4 sections was used for data collection. In the first part of the questionnaire form, a data collection form including socio-demographic characteristics, in the second part, the Eating Addiction Scale (EFAS), in the third part, the Eating Disorder Assessment Scale (EDAS), and in the fourth part, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) were applied. Statistical analyses of the study data were evaluated using the SPSS program. According to the results of our study, it was
found that 210 (60%) people were obese, 97 (27.7) people were overweight, 41 (11.7) people were normal, and 2 (0.6) people were underweight. In the study, it was determined that 343 people (98.0%) did not have eating addiction. It was determined that the eating addiction scale scores of those who were obese were higher than those who were underweight/normal. A significant difference was found in terms of gender and the total scores of the EAS (Z=-4.688; p<0.001). It was determined that the total scores of women were higher than those of men (Z=-4,688; p<0,001). There was a significant correlation between BMI (kg/m2) and bodily anxiety, weight-related anxiety and eating anxiety (p<0.05). As weight increases, weight-related and eating concerns will increase. In addition, as IPAQ increases, weight will decrease. Considering the physical activity status of the individuals, 127 (35.1%) were found to be minimally active. As a result of the study, a significant difference was found in terms of eating anxiety scores according to BMI classes (ꭓ2=7.165; p=0.028), and a significant difference was found in terms of IPAQ scores (ꭓ2=7.178; p=0.028).
