Lisans Düzeyinde Turizm Eğitimi Alan Öğrencilerin Turizm Algısı ve Beklentileri Üzerine Bir Araştırma

Abstract

ÖZ Dünya genelinde turizm yönünde öne çıkmış olan ülkeler arasında nitelikli personel ihtiyacına yönelik ana sorunlar çok benzerlik göstermektedir. Bu sorunlar; düşük ücret, yüksek mevsimsellik, yüksek personel devir hızı, beceri eksiklikleri ve kayıt dışı istihdam olarak sıralanmaktadır. Bu durumlar her geçen gün sektörde nitelikli personeli ihtiyacını artırmaktadır. Bu araştırmada lisans düzeyinde turizm eğitimi almakta olan ve gelecekte turizm işletmeleri için potansiyel adaylar olarak kabul edilen öğrencilerin almakta oldukları turizm eğitimine yönelik algı ve beklentilerine odaklanılmış, turizm eğitimi algısı ile turizm eğitimi beklentisi arasındaki ilişkinin test edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma kapsamında 368 öğrenciye 2023-2024 öğretim yılı Bahar döneminde anket uygulanmıştır. Anket verilerinin analizi sonucunda öğrencilerin turizm eğitimi algısını mesleki (iş güvencesi, diğer işlere göre saygınlık, cinsiyet ayrımcılığın olmaması, yasak hakların yeterliliği) ve öznel (sosyal ilişkilerin yüksek olduğu bir meslek, yeni insanlarla tanışma keyfi, eğlenceli çalışma) olmak üzere iki alt boyut ile turizm eğitimi beklentisini ise çalışma niyeti-kariyer (uzun yıllar sektörde çalışma isteği, sektörde yönetici pozisyonuna kadar yükselme, sektöründe çalıştığında mutlu olacağına inanma, turizm sektöründe kendi işimi kurma) ve kişisel gelişim (kişisel iletişim becerisi artırma inancı, yabancı dil öğrenme imkanı, yeni insanlarla tanışma fırsatı, uluslararası istihdam fırsatı, sıradanlıktan uzaklaşma fırsatı) yönüyle yaklaştıkları tespit edilmiştir.

ABSTRACT The main problems related to the need for qualified personnel are very similar among the countries that have become prominent in tourism across the world. These problems include low wages, high seasonality, high staff turnover, skills shortages and informal employment. These situations increase the need for qualified personnel in the sector day by day. This study focuses on the perceptions and expectations of students, who are currently studying tourism at undergraduate level and who are considered as potential candidates for tourism enterprises in the future, regarding the tourism education they are receiving, and aims to test the relationship between the perception of tourism education and the expectation of tourism education. Within the scope of the research, 368 students were surveyed in the Spring semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. As a result of the analysis of the survey data, the students' perception of tourism education was analyzed in two sub-dimensions: professional (job security, prestige compared to other jobs, lack of gender discrimination, adequacy of prohibited rights) and subjective (a profession with high social relations, the pleasure of meeting new people, fun work), and the expectation of tourism education in two sub-dimensions: work intention-career (the desire to work in the sector for many years, (rising to a managerial position in the sector, believing that they will be happy working in the sector, starting their own business in the tourism sector) and personal development (belief in increasing personal communication skills, opportunity to learn a foreign language, opportunity to meet new people, opportunity for international employment, opportunity to get away from the ordinary).
