THE ANALYSIS OF THE REASONS WHY RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES ARE NOT COMMONLY USED IN THE IRON AND STEEL INDUSTRY – KARABUK PROVINCE SAMPLE

Abstract

ÖZET

Geçmişten günümüze kadar değerini kaybetmeden gelen enerji, ülkelerin ekonomik ve sosyal kalkınmasında en etkili faktörlerden biri olmuştur. Günümüz dünyasında artan nüfus ve sanayileşmenin de etkisiyle daha fazla enerji ihtiyacı meydana gelmiştir. Dolayısıyla enerji üretimi için kullanılan kaynaklar da önem kazanmıştır. Türkiye gibi özellikle gelişmekte olan ülkeler, yoğun olarak kullanılan fosil enerji kaynakları bakımından yeterli rezerve sahip olmadığından dışa bağımlı durumdadırlar. Ayrıca enerji üretiminde fosil kaynakların kullanımı, her geçen gün zararlı gazların salınımını daha da arttırarak tehlikeli boyutlara ulaşmıştır. Bu sebeplerden dolayı yoğun enerjiye ihtiyaç duyan alanların başında gelen demir-çelik sektöründe de yenilenebilir kaynakların kullanımı son derece önem arz etmektedir. Demir-çelik sektöründe yenilenebilir enerji kaynaklarının yeteri kadar kullanılmamasının sebeplerini analiz etmek amacıyla hazırlanan bu çalışma, Türkiye’nin demir-çelik sektöründe öncü şehirlerinden olan Karabük ilinde uygulanmıştır. Uygulamada Çok Kriterli Karar Verme metotlarından olan Analitik Hiyerarşi Prosesinin (AHP) bulanık mantık ile entegrasyonu sonucu oluşan Bulanık Analitik Hiyerarşi Prosesi (BAHP) yöntemi uygulanmıştır. Yenilenebilir enerji kaynaklarının demir-çelik sektöründe düşük seviyelerde tercih edilmesine sebep olabilecek dört ana kriter belirlenmiştir. Bu kriterler; “Teknik sebepler”, “Ekonomik sebepler”, “Sosyal sebepler” ve “Çevresel sebepler”. Bu dört ana kritere bağlı 20 alt kriteri içeren bir anket çalışması hazırlanmıştır. Anketler aracılığıyla 13 demir-çelik işletmesinden alınan uzman görüşleri ile en etkili sebeplerin tespiti yapılmıştır. Bu çalışma ile yenilenebilir enerji kaynaklarının demir-çelik sektöründe daha fazla kullanılmamasının nedenleri ortaya çıkarılmaya çalışılmıştır. Buna göre demir-çelik sektöründe yenilenebilir enerji kaynaklarının çok fazla tercih edilmemesinde etkili faktörler önemlilik sırasına göre ekonomik, teknik, çevresel ve sosyal sebeplere bağlı olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.

ABSTRACT

Energy, which has come from the past without losing value, has been one of the most influential factors in economic and social development of countries. In today’s world, more energy needs have occurred due to the increasing population and industrialization. Therefore, resources used for energy production have also gained importance. Especially developing countries such as Turkey are dependent on outside since they do not have sufficient reserves of fossil energy that are heavily used. In addition, the use of fossil resources in energy production has reached dangerous levels by increasing the release of harmful gases day by day. For these reasons, the use of renewable resources is extremely important in the iron and steel industry, which is one of the areas that need intense energy. This study has been prepared to analyse the reasons of not using enough renewable energy resources in the iron and steel industry, and implemented in Karabük, which is one of the pioneering cities in the industry. In practice, the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (BAHP) method, which is the result of the integration of fuzzy logic and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), which is one of the Multiple Criteria Decision-Making methods, was applied. Four main criteria that can cause renewable energy sources to be preferred at low levels in the iron and steel sector have been determined. These criteria are “Technical reasons”, “Economic reasons”, “Social reasons” and “Environmental reasons”. A survey study including 20 sub criteria related to these four main criteria was prepared. Through the surveys, the most effective reasons were identified with the expert opinions received from 13 iron and steel enterprises. With this study, the reasons for not using renewable energy resources more in the iron and steel industry are tried to be revealed. Accordingly, it has been concluded that effective factors in the non-preference of renewable energy sources in the iron and steel industry depend on economic, technical, environmental and social reasons in order of importance.
