Investigation of the Effect of the “Sensory Experiences” Training Program Given in the Baby Library on the Development Areas and Sensory Development of Infants

Abstract

ÖZET

Bu araştırmanın amacı, bebeklerin duyu gelişimlerine yönelik hazırlanan duyusal deneyimler eğitim programının bebeklerin duyu gelişimi alt alanları ve bilişsel, dil, ince-motor ve sosyal-duygusal gelişim alanları üzerindeki etkisini incelemek ve ilgili programa, programın uygulanma sürecine ve programın etkililiğine yönelik ebeveynlerin görüşlerini belirlemektir. Araştırma kapsamında ilgili eğitim programının bebeklerin duyu gelişimi ve diğer gelişim alanları üzerindeki etki durumunun incelenmesine ve program hakkında ebeveynlerin görüşlerinin alınmasına bağlı olarak karma araştırma deseni tercih edilerek yürütülmüştür. Karabük Zübeyde Hanım İl Halk Kütüphanesi’nde yer alan bebek kütüphanesi bölümünde gerçekleştirilen araştırmaya, normal gelişim gösteren ve 12-36 ay yaş aralığındaki toplam 15 bebek ve ebeveynleri katılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Denver II gelişimsel tarama testi, dereceli puanlama anahtarı, kontrol listesi ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilere göre, duyusal deneyimler eğitim programının bebeklerin dokunma, koku alma, görme ve işitme duyu alanlarına farklılık oluşturacak düzeyde etki ettiği tat alma duyu alanına ise farklılık oluşturacak düzeyde etki etmediği tespit edilmiştir. İlgili program diğer gelişim alanları açısından değerlendirildiğinde anlamlı farklılık oluşturduğu belirlenmiştir. Yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmelerden elde edilen verilere göre ise ebeveynlerin duyu gelişimi hakkında farkındalıklarının olduğu, bebekler ile etkinlikler gerçekleştirmenin bu sürece etki ettiği ve araştırma sürecine yönelik olumlu yönde fikirlerinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of sensory experiences training program on the sensory development and other developmental areas (cognitive, language, fine-motor and social-emotional) of infants and to determine the opinions of parents regarding the implementation and effectiveness of this program. A mixed-method research design, in which both quantitative and qualitative approaches are used together, was preferred. In the quantitative part of this study, the effect of the sensory experiences training program on sensory development of infants was investigated. In the qualitative part of this study, the opinions of parents regarding the implementation and effectiveness of this program was determined. This study was carried out in the baby library section of the Karabük Zübeyde Hanım Public Library. A total of 15 infants aged 12-36 months and their parents participated in this study. In this study, Denver II, rubric, checklist and semi-structured interview form were used as data collection tools. According to the data obtained from participants, it has been determined that the sensory experiences training program effects the senses of touch, smell, sight and hearing but not the sense of taste. When the effect of this program on other developmental areas is examined, it has been determined that it creates a difference. According to the data obtained from semi-structured interviews, it has been determined that parents have awareness about sensory development, performing activities with infants and have positive opinions about the study process.
