Exploring the problems experienced by Iraqi EFL teachers at intermediate public schools in Kirkuk

Özet
Irak'taki İngilizce öğretmenleri, öğretmen performansını olumsuz etkileyen çeşitli sorunlarla karşı karşıyadır ve bu sorunların ele alınması, eğitim sürecinde engeller oluşturmanın olumsuz etkisini azaltacaktır. Kerkük müfredat soruları, öğrenci soruları, veli soruları, öğretmen özel yetenek soruları ve daha fazlası. Çeşitli siyasi veya sosyal sorunlar eğitimi ve İngilizce öğretmenlerini etkiler. Bu nedenle, bu araştırma İngilizce öğretmenlerinin mevcut sorunlarını ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlamaktadır. Kerkük'te bu konuları ele almak, öğrencilere İngilizce öğretiminin etkinliğini artırmanın bir yolu olacaktır. Ayrıca, öğretmenlerin sorunlarının ele alınması, öğretmenlerin etkili bir şekilde öğretime odaklanmalarını kolaylaştırır. Bu çalışma, temsili örnekleri seçmek için basit rastgele örnekleme kullanır ve anketleri 154 kişiye dağıtır: 60 öğretmen, 84 öğrenci ve 10 süpervizör. Veriler anket yoluyla toplandı ve SPSS 23 ve (ANOVA) kullanılarak analiz edildi. Çalışmanın sonuçları, çalışma örneklemi üyelerinin cinsiyet, yaş, eğitim ve çalışma yılı gibi çalışma değişkenlerine verdikleri yanıtlarda istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık ortaya koymamıştır. Bu çalışma aynı zamanda İngilizceyi yabancı dil olarak öğreten öğretmenlerin kendi sorunları, öğrenci sorunları, okul sorunları ve çevre sorunları başta olmak üzere karşılaştıkları sorunların üst düzeyde olduğunu göstermektedir. Araştırmacıların tavsiyeleri (1) İngilizce öğretmenlerine gerekli eğitim hedeflerine ulaşma yeteneklerini geliştirmek için tüm beceri ve ihtiyaçları sağlamak ve (2) genel olarak Irak'ta çalışan öğretmenler için çalışma ortamını iyileştirmeye dikkat etmektir. Özellikle İngilizce öğretmenleri ve (3) öğretmenlerin becerilerini geliştirmek ve öğrencilerin yararına olmak üzere İngilizce dil öğreniminde modern teknolojik yaklaşımları kullanırlar. Araştırmacıların önerilerinden biri de Iraklı öğretmenlerin, özellikle de İngilizce öğretmenlerinin karşılaştıkları sorunlarla nasıl yüzleşileceğidir.
Teachers of English in Iraq face several problems that negatively affect teachers' performance, and addressing these problems will reduce the negative effects that constitute obstacles to the educational process. Various political or social issues in Kirkuk affect education and English language teachers, such as curriculum problems, students' problems, parents' problems, and teachers' special ability problems, etc. Therefore, the present study aimed to identify the problems of English language teachers in Kirkuk, and solutions to these problems would be a way to increase the efficiency of English language teaching for students. Also, solving teachers' problems will make the teacher more comfortable and focus on teaching efficiently. A simple random sampling method was used in this study to select representative samples, whereby the questionnaires were distributed to 154 people: 60 teachers, 84 students, and 10 supervisors. The data were collected through a questionnaire and were analyzed using SPSS 23 and (ANOVA). The findings showed no statistically significant differences in the response of the study sample members toward the study variables, namely gender, age, academic qualification, and years of experience. This study also showed the high level of problems related to English teachers themselves, the high level of problems related to students, the high level of school-related problems, and the high level of environmental problems faced by teachers of English as a foreign language in public intermediate schools in Kirkuk. The recommendations made by the researcher are to provide all the capabilities and needs of English language teachers (1) to increase their ability to achieve the required educational goals, (2) pay attention to improving the work environment in which teachers work in Iraq in general and English language teachers in particular, and (3) make use of technological methods of modern English language learning to increase teachers' ability to and the benefit of students. One of the suggestions made by the researcher is related to how to confront the problems faced by teachers in Iraq in general and English language teachers in particular.
