Özet
Due to its massive reach and influence on the society, the massmedia have been used for various purposes from past to present,accordingly to the conditions of the period and to the characteristics ofthe mass media (technical) at that time. Politicians wanted to effectivelyuse mass media and used it for specifically political purposes. In the past,newspapers were the most effective mass media tool in manner, but lateron radios and soon after radios, televisions played an important role inpolitical life. Especially the influence of television on the electorate, whichhas audiovisual characteristic, has increased the interest of politicianson television. Today, almost all of the world's political studies continue touse mass media effectively, especially television.This study aims to show that television, which has significant socialinfluence, is effectively used in presidential elections in the United States.Use of televiosion started to become widespread after 1950s and was usedfor political purposes in the same years, within the scope of the study,the use of television until the 2000s in the US presidential elections (forpropaganda purposes) was examined periodically. According to thefindings, television was systematically used for propaganda in all USpresidential elections from 1952 to present (2016).
