Özet

This study aims that evaluating efficiency of an interactive computer game (GCS) which developed to teach curtain wall systems in an entertaining manner. The interactive game-based learning method and traditional learning method were compared through an experiment. In total, 80 volunteer undergraduate students from Karabuk University Department of Architecture took part in experiment. They had never attended a lecture on curtain wall systems before. The participants were then separated into two groups of equal size, with the separate groups being designated as interactive system and traditional system. A lecture on curtain wall systems was presented to traditional system group via traditional course materials, such as books, lecturing notes and slide shows. The interactive system students played the computer game. All necessary permissions had been acquired from the concerned instruction. The results which gathered from the study statistically evaluated. According to the post-experiment test results, the mean score (M=71.07) of interactive system was scientifically (p=0.000) higher than the traditional system (M=40.36). The late post-experiment test, which conducted 6 months later, shows that the mean score of the interactive system decreased 17.20 point and the mean score of the traditional system decreased 9.23 point in total. It was observed that the mean score of the interactive system was still significantly (P=0.000) higher than the traditional system. The study has indicated that interactive computer game GCS was an efficient hypermedia tool for giving students the opportunity to experience curtain wall systems. It is thought that the interactive user interface of the game had an important role in this success. The students were excited and motivated by the fact that they had the opportunity to have fun and explore functions of the components, just as if they were playing a computer game.
