Özet
Banditry became a popular subject in the Republican Era Turkish literature, especially after the 1950s and this subject was revitalized through the pens of the Marxist writers. One of the popular themes was the life (1872-1911) of çakircali Mehmet Efe of the Aegean Region. There are two well-known Turkish writers who wrote on çakircali Mehmet Efe. Sabahattin Ali, in his long story titled "çakici 'nin ilk Kur?unu" ( The First Bullet ofçakict)(1940 ?), tells about the first bullet he had to fire to take his father's revenge and considers this as both of çakircali 's and of the Anatolian people's the first revolt against Sultan Abdulhamit, 11. Ya?ar Kemal, on the other hand, depicts him as a noble character in his novel "çakircali Efe "just as E. J. Hobsbwm's does in his novels and follows a romantic trend. Yet, Yasar kemal emphasizes that the case of çakircali is rather complicated. In his opinion, çakircali's becoming a problem for the state was also because of the prejudice and individual interests of the local and international groups.
