Özet
Excavations carried out in 2021 in Hadrianopolis (Paphlagonia) led to the discovery of a one-pound Byzantine weight inscribed with the name of Theodoros, Count of the Sacred Largesses. Unearthed next to an hypothetical military building, the bronze instrument probably dates from the last quarter of the 6th century and documents the administrative control of transactions in the late Roman city. Weights inscribed with the name of a high official are quite rare and such an artefact in archaeological context has no precedent. This paper questions the precise role of the imperial court in the production and control of officially sanctioned weights in the sixth-century Empire. © 2023 Societe Francaise de Numismatique.
