Özet
The synthesis and characterization of metal oxides have received substantial attention from researchers because of their wide-ranging applications in various fields, particularly in the biomedical area, resulting from their magnificent properties. Metal oxides such as iron oxide, titanium oxide, zinc oxide, zirconium oxide, and cerium oxide proved their advantages in various areas, including sensor, energy, and biomedical applications. However, metal oxides had certain limits indicating that further innovation in their characteristics might expand their application areas. Later, mixed metal oxides and subsequently carbon-based mixed metal oxide composites were synthesized, further confirming to scientists that such composites ensure much better results than the previously synthesized materials. This chapter deals with metal oxide-carbon-based nanocomposites and their role in the biomedical field. Initially, this chapter elaborates on pure and mixed metal oxides and their applications, and then carbon-based nanomaterials are explained, with their clinical applications also included. Finally, observations are made about the substitution of carbon-based material in metal oxides and their beneficial effects on the physical, chemical, and biological properties of metal oxides. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.
