Öğe Compression strength perpendicular to grain characteristics of impregnated laminated veneer lumbers exposed to sea water(Lietuvos Misku Institutas, 2016) Esen, R.; Kurt, S.; Özcan, C.The purpose of this study is to determine the compression strength perpendicular to grain of laminated veneer lumber exposed to sea water 3, 6, 9 and 12 months and obtained from Scots pine by using different adhesive and impregnating materials. While the highest compression strength perpendicular to grain is obtained from then unimpregnated samples, which are not exposed to sea water, with 39.56 N/mm2 the lowest compression strength perpendicular to grain is obtained from the unimpregnated samples exposed to sea water for 12 months with 10.94 N/mm2. © 2016, Lietuvos Misku Institutas. There are numerous methods used in solid object colouring. When the studies carried out in different fields are taken into consideration, it is seen that quad-tree method displays a prominent position in terms of speed and performance. Cropped quad-tree is obtained as a result of the developments seen with the frequent use of this method in the field of computer sciences. Two different versions of algorithm which operate recursively on CPU and at the same time which use GPU computing optimization are used in this study. Besides, OpenGL is used for graphics drawing process. Within the setting of the study, results are obtained via CPU and GPU's, at first using Quad-Tree method and then Cropped Quad-Tree method. It is observed that GPU computing is obviously faster than CPU computing and Cropped Quad-Tree method produces rapid results compared to Quad-Tree method as a result of performance. GPU computing method boosted approximately performance by up to 20 times compared to only CPU usage; furthermore, cropped quad-tree method boosted approximately performance of algorithm by up to 25 times on average dependent on screen and object size.Öğe Determination of relationship between thermal and mechanical properties of wood material(Korean Society of Wood Science Technology, 2019) Özcan, C.; Korkmaz, M.Non-destructive test techniques are becoming increasingly important for assessment and maintenance. These techniques are very useful for assessment of materials such as wood, whose performance can vary considerably depending on the conditions of use. It is possible to estimate some mechanical properties of a material by determining the movement of energy through the material with the help of these techniques. In this study, it was investigated whether the wood material could be tested nondestructively by the heat energy produced by a source. The correlations between the thermal conductivity and mechanical properties of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and sessile oak (Quercus petraea L.) woods were investigated. The thermal conductivity (TC), density, modulus of rupture (MOR), compression strength (CS), and modulus of elasticity (MOE) values of samples were measured according to the related standards and these values were correlated with each other. The linear and multiple regression tests were employed to determine the correlation between thermal conductivity and mechanical properties. The results showed that there is a very strong correlation between thermal conductivity and both density and MOR values. However, the correlations between TC and both MOE and CS were moderate. The results of this study suggest that the thermal conductivity value can be used to estimate the density and some mechanical properties of wood. © 2019, Korean Society of Wood Science Technology. Speckle reduction is generally used as a first step which has to smooth out homogeneous regions while preserving edges and point scatterers. In remote sensing applications, efficiency of computational load and memory consumption of despeckling must be improved for SAR images. In this paper, an early-exit total variation approach is proposed and this approach combines the l1-norm and the l2-norm in order to improve despeckling quality while keeping execution times of algorithm reasonably short. Speckle reduction performance, execution time and memory consumption are shown using spot mode SAR images. © 2015 IEEE.Öğe The effects of edge banding thickness of uludag fir bonded with some adhesives on withdrawal strengths of beech dowel pins in composite materials(2009) Kurt, S.; Uysal, B.; Özcan, C.; Yildirim, M.N.Composite materials and wooden dowels are being used increasingly in the construction of furniture frames and inner decoration. Yet there is little information available concerning the withdrawal strength of various fasteners, and, in particular, dowels in composite materials edged solid wood edge bandings. The aim of this study was to determine the withdrawal strengths of 6, 8, 10 mm diameter dowels produced from beech with respect to edge of a medium-density fiberboard (MDF) or particleboard (PB) edged with 5, 10 and 15 mm thickness of solid wood edge banding of uludag fir, bonded with different adhesives. According to TS 4539 standard, the effects of edge banding thickness, dimension of dowels, type of composite materials and type of adhesives used for edge banding on the withdrawal strength were determined. The highest (6.37 N/mm2) withdrawal strength was obtained in beech dowels with 8 mm diameter for MDF with 5 mm thickness of solid wood edge banding of uludag fir bonded with D-VTKA adhesive. According to results, if the hole wall and the surface of dowel are smooth then the adhesives give better mechanical adhesion with dowels and composite materials.Öğe Enhanced enchondroma detection from x-ray images using deep learning: A step towards accurate and cost-effective diagnosis(John Wiley and Sons Inc, 2024) Aydin, Simsek, S.; Aydin, A.; Say, F.; Cengiz, T.; Özcan, C.; Öztürk, M.; Okay, E.This study investigates the automated detection of enchondromas, benign cartilage tumors, from x-ray images using deep learning techniques. Enchondromas pose diagnostic challenges due to their potential for malignant transformation and overlapping radiographic features with other conditions. Leveraging a data set comprising 1645 x-ray images from 1173 patients, a deep-learning model implemented with Detectron2 achieved an accuracy of 0.9899 in detecting enchondromas. The study employed rigorous validation processes and compared its findings with the existing literature, highlighting the superior performance of the deep learning approach. Results indicate the potential of machine learning in improving diagnostic accuracy and reducing healthcare costs associated with advanced imaging modalities. The study underscores the significance of early and accurate detection of enchondromas for effective patient management and suggests avenues for further research in musculoskeletal tumor detection. © 2024 The Author(s). Wood(2011) Yapici, F.; Uysal, B.; Kurt, S.; Esen, R.; Özcan, C.Effects of the impregnation materials borax, boric acid, and Tanalith-E on combustion properties of Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) were investigated. The immersion method was used for long-term impregnation (24 h). After the impregnation process, polyurethane as well as synthetic, acid hardening, and water-based varnishes were applied on the wood sample surfaces according to company's suggests. The combustion test was performed according to the ASTM-E 69 standard. The mass reduction, release of gasses (CO, NO, O 2), and the temperature differences of samples were determined for each 30 seconds during combustion. It was shown that the most mass reduction occurred when both polyurethane varnish and boric acid were applied.Öğe Stream text data analysis on twitter using apache spark streaming(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018) Hakdagli, O.; Özcan, C.; Ogul, I.U.With today's developing technology, people's access to information and its production have reached a very fast level. These generated and obtained information are instantly created, entered into data systems and updated. Sources of streaming data can be transformed into valuable analysis results when they are handled with targeted methods. In this study, a text data field is determined to perform analysis on instantaneous generated data and Twitter, the richest platform for instant text data, is used. Twitter instantly generates a variety of data in large quantities and it presents it as open source using an API. A machine learning framework Apache Spark's stream analysis environment is used to analyze these resources. Situation analysis was performed using Support Vector Machine, Decision Trees and Logistic Regression algorithms presented under this environment. The results are presented in tables. © 2018 IEEE.
