Öğe Anatomical Differences of Variant Intracranial Cysts(Nigerian Medical Assoc, Enugu State, 2020) Colak, Tuncay; Bamac, Belgin; Erdogan, Mehtap; Orha, Ayla Tekin; Acar, Derya; Ozbek, AydinCavum vergae, cavum septum pellucidum and cavum veli interpositi are brain midline embryological developmental cysts. They are rarely seen after trauma. Generally, they do not constitute clinical findings. These cysts sometimes become enlarged and become symptomatic. Enlarged cysts cause severe neurological dysfunction. During normal fetal development, the development of the adjacent structures of the limbic system and the septum pellucidum are synchronized. It is thought that dysgenesis in these adjacent structures may affect the lamina fusion of septum pellucidum and cause cavum septum pellucidum. Anterior one of the cavities that arise when septum pellucidum laminae do not join after birth is called cavum septum pellucidum (CSP). The one in the posterior is called cavum vergae (CV). Velum interpositum (VI) is a potential cavity below the corpus callosum splenium and sometimes presents as a cyst. Cavum veli interpositi (CVI) is located in the pineal area, below the columna fornicis and above the tela choroidea of the 3rd ventricle. Because of its rarity, the incidence of CVI cyst is uncertain. The CV obliterates from the front to the front and is seen with the cavum septum pellucidum. CSP and CV are cavities that are present in fetal life but are considered as variant intracranial defects that do not close 6 months after birth. CVI is rarely seen embryo logically in fetal life in children over 2 years and adults. These cysts are rare in adults. In this study, anatomical features and clinical reflections of CSP, CV and CVI were reviewed.Öğe The Effect of Kinesio Taping on Muscle Pain, Sprint Performance, and Flexibility in Recovery From Squat Exercise in Young Adult Women(Human Kinetics Publ Inc, 2016) Ozmen, Tarik; Aydogmus, Mert; Dogan, Hanife; Acar, Derya; Zoroglu, Tuba; Willems, MarkContext: Kinesio taping (KT) is a taping technique extensively used in rehabilitation of sports injuries; however, the effect of KT on delayed-onset muscle soreness is not entirely clear. Objectives: To investigate the effect of kinesio tape on the quadriceps femoris on muscle pain, flexibility, and sprint performance after squat exercise. Design: Crossover study. Setting: University research laboratory. Participants: 19 female university students (age 21.0 +/- 1.2 y, weight 53.0 +/- 4.6 kg, height 164 +/- 4 cm). Main Outcome Measures: Pressure-pain threshold for quadriceps femoris was recorded using pressure algometry. Quadriceps femoris flexibility was measured as the range of motion of knee flexion with a stainless steel goniometer. Sprint-speed measurements were conducted using photocells placed at 0 and 20 m. All participants completed both conditions (KT application and no KT application) after a 1-wk washout period. Measurements were taken at baseline and 48 h postexercise. For the KT condition, KT was applied immediately before the exercise protocol and remained on the skin for 48 h. Results: Squat exercise reduced flexibility and increased pain and sprint time compared with baseline. KT application resulted in similar sprint time and muscle pain as the no-KT condition but maintained flexibility compared with baseline. Conclusions: KT application immediately before squat exercise has no effect on muscle pain and short sprint performance but maintains muscle flexibility at 2 days of recovery.Öğe Kronik bel ağrılı hastalarda kinezyofobi ve yaşam kalitesi(2016) Özmen, Tarik; Gündüz, Ramazan; Doğan, Hanife; Zoroğlu, Tuba; Acar, DeryaAmaç: Hareket etme korkusu olarak ifade edilen kinezyofobi, kronik bel ağrılı hastalarda, ısrarlı ağrıya yol açan ve aktiviteleri sınırlandıran bir faktördür. Bu çalışmanın amacı, kronik bel ağrılı hastalarda kinezyofobi ve yaşam kalitesi arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmaktır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmaya 18-75 yaşları arasındaki (yaş ortalaması 56.12±11.75 yıl) kronik bel ağrılı 94 hasta katıldı. Hastalar Tampa Kinezyofobi Ölçeği ve Short Form-36 ile değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Erkekler ve kadınlar arasında boy (P<0.001) ve yaşam kalitesinin fiziksel fonksiyon alt parametresi (P<0.05) arasında anlamlı fark bulunmuştur. Her iki cinsiyet arasında kinezyofobi değerlerinde istatistiksel anlamlı bir fark bulunmuştur (P<0.001). Hem erkekler hem de kadınların kinezyofobi değerleri ile yaşam kalitesinin tüm parametreleri arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmamıştır (P>0.05). Sonuç: Kronik bel ağrılı hastalarda kinezyofobi bayanlarda erkeklerden daha fazla görülebilmektedir. Uncontrolled hyperglycemia leads to histopathologic alterations in the kidney that prevent normal renal function. This study aimed to explore the effects of crocin treatment via virtue of its numerous beneficial properties in streptozotocin-induced pinealectomized diabetic rats. The pinealectomy procedure was conducted on the first day of the study. On the 30th day following pinealectomy, streptozotocin (STZ) (50 mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally in Wistar rats for induction of diabetes. Diabetes was confirmed on the 3rd day following STZ administration by determining the glucose levels. Daily crocin treatment intraperitoneally for 15 days (50 mg/kg) ameliorated impaired renal oxidant/antioxidant balance, reduced TGF-81 immuno-staining around tubules, and promoted improvement of renal architecture. Moreover, crocin administration improved altered renal function parameters, including serum Cr and BUN, and also increased creatinine clearance. In conclusion, the protective effects of crocin on diabetic nephropathy might be associated with its powerful antioxidant properties, its ability to improve tissue antioxidant status, and its ability to prevent inflammatory pathways.
