Öğe AN EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF STAND-ALONE OF CONCENTRATED SOLAR COLLECTORS COUPLING WITH MEMBRANE DISTILLATION(2021-08) Alhrari, Muhsen SalhinAn experimental study has been conducted on the performance of a CPV/T coupled with DCMD module for sustainable water desalination. This system was fabricated and tested at KARABUK University, Turkey, in September and October 2018. The outcome will be used to evaluate the feasibility of producing fresh water using solar energy under different conditions and solar and water inputs. The CPV/T solar collector can produce heated water at 55 °C, which is stored and utilised to feed the DCMD unit with hot water at an average temperature of 40 °C. The mass flux varied from high rate of 6 L/m2/h at the end of June, 2018 to 3 L/m2/h by the end of September, 2018 when the feed water concentration is 1%. The transmembrane coefficient of the selected PTFE membrane was determined to be 0.0017 kg /m²/Pa/h. Also. The amount of fresh water produced when the saline feed water concentration was 1.3% and 1.5% were around 5.5 L/m2/h and 5 L/m2/h, respectively. The system consumes thermal energy from 2000 kJ /kg to 9000 kJ/kg varies with inlet feed water temperature and feed water concentration. Finally, the system electrical efficiency averaged around 18% whereas, the thermal efficiency increased to an average of 25 % and the total efficiency reached an average of 71%. More investigations should be done to optimise and improve the performance of the entire system integrating new material and research.
