Öğe Effectiveness of a Transtheoretical Model-Based Foot Care Program in Improving Foot Care Behaviors and Self-Efficacy in Adults With Type 2 Diabetes: An Assessor-Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial(Springer Publishing Co, 2022) Kes, Duygu; Sahin, Fatime; Ozkan, Aysegul Ertinmaz; Basmaz, Seda EremThis study aimed to evaluate the effects of a transtheoretical model (TTM)-based foot care program on foot self-care behaviors and self-efficacy among adults with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). A prospective, assessor-blinded, randomized controlled trial was conducted between January 2020 and October 2020 at the endocrinology outpatient unit of a hospital in the north-west Turkey. The sample was composed of 51 adults with T2DM randomly allocated to the intervention group (n = 25) and control group (n = 26). The intervention group received the TTM-based foot care program during a 6-month period. The data were analyzed using the two-way repeated measure analysis of variance (ANOVA). After intervention, the intervention group's the diabetic foot care self-efficacy scale scores increased significantly at 3 and 6 months, compared with the control group. Similarly, the intervention group's the foot self-care behavior scale scores also increased significantly at 3 months and 6 months.Öğe Inflammation level in type 2 diabetes is associated with dietary advanced glycation end products, Mediterranean diet adherence and oxidative balance score: A pathway analysis(Elsevier Science Inc, 2023) Demirer, Busra; Yardimci, Hulya; Basmaz, Seda EremAims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of dietary advanced glycation end products (dAGE) intake, Mediterranean diet adherence screener (MEDAS), and oxidative balance score (OBS) on inflammation among individuals with type 2 diabetes. Methods: The study was conducted with 96 adults (aged between 32 and 64 years) with type 2 diabetes. The average daily dAGE intakes, energy and macronutrient intakes of the participants were taken with the three-day food consumption recording method. OBS and MEDAS score was used. At the same time, routine blood lipids, HbA1c, fasting blood glucose and inflammation marker C-reactive protein (CRP) were measured. Results: Dietary AGE intake was associated with fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, CRP and blood pressures (p < 0.01). The relationship between OBS and dAGE intake was significant (8 = -0.36; 95 % Cl = -0.500, -0.220; p < 0.001). MEDAS has a negative and statistically significant effect on dAGE intake (8 = -0.56; 95 % Cl = -0.696, -0.444; p < 0.001). There was a significant and positive effect of dAGE on CRP when other variables (MEDAS, OBS) affecting dAGE were also included in the analysis (8 = 0.79; 95 % CI = 0.664, 0.917; p < 0.001). Conclusions: Our findings may have important implications for explaining the development of inflammation in type 2 diabetes patients with high dAGE intake.Öğe Relationship between mental symptoms, dietary compliance and glucose levels of diabetic patients in isolation during covid-19 pandemic(2022) Basmaz, Seda Erem; Doğan, Fatma; Şahin, FatimeAim: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19, 2019-nCoV) which first appeared in Wuhan, China in December 2019 is a disease causing acute respiratory failure. Home isolation methods are used to control the disease all around the world and also in our country. In this study we planned to explain the relationship between some mental symptoms, diet compliance, frequency of blood glucose measurement and blood glucose levels in diabetic patients during home isolation. Material and Method: In this study some questions about the frequency of blood glucose measurement, blood glucose levels, dietary compliance and mental states of the patients were asked on the phone and the patients were asked to give a score to the symptom severity. The notes were retrospectively screened. Results: It is known that social isolation triggers the anxiety and depression. Anxiety and depression can increase the secretion of some hormones which leads high blood glucose levels (respectively 54.4% of those with 200-300 mg/dl, 91.7% of those with >300 mg/dl don't follow their diets) in diabetic patients. These symptoms can reduce dietary compliance and frequency of the blood sugar measurement, therefore can make metabolic control of the diabetes difficult. Conclusion: In this study, we found that blood glucose levels were very high and the frequency of blood glucose measurements were very low in the patients who had some mood changes and we saw that the patients did not follow on their diets. It is important to support patients mentally during this process. Training and following up should be used with some various methods.Öğe A severe adrenal crisis occurred in late diagnosed sheehan’s syndrome developed in a 17-year-old woman(2020) Özkan Sevencan, Nurhayat; Basmaz, Seda Erem; Ertınmaz Özkan, Ayşegül; Kayhan, BurçakSheehan’s syndrome occurs as a result of severe postpartum hemorrhage and is characterized by varying degrees of anteriorpituitary dysfunction. It is an important health problem especially for women who deliver at home in developing countries. In thisreport, we presented a 17-year-old female patient who gave her second birth at home. During her delivery severe vaginal hemorrhageoccurred and she applied to a healthcare facility too late. Since then, she hasn’t had menstruation and hasn’t been able to getpregnant. She was diagnosed with Sheehan’s syndrome 16 years after giving birth. The patient didn’t use her medicine regularlyafter the diagnosis because she wasn’t properly informed about the disease, and she has stopped taking it for the last six months. In the current conditions; the 69-year-old patient is presented with hypocortisolemia, hypoglycemia, hyponatremia, and advancedosteoporosis. The patient with severe adrenal crisis was taken in treatment by us.
