Öğe A Fuzzy Multi Criteria Decision Making to Evaluate Energy Policy Based on an Information Axiom: A Case Study in Turkey(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2012) Boran, F. E.; Boran, K.; Dizdar, E.This study examines the causal relationship between renewable energy consumption and economic growth for 80 countries within a multivariate panel framework over the period 1990-2007. The results of the panel cointegration test indicates there is a long-run equilibrium relationship between real gross domestic product, renewable energy consumption, real gross fixed capital formation, and the labor force with the respective coefficient estimates positive and statistically significant. The results from the panel error correction model reveal bidirectional causality between renewable energy consumption and economic growth in both the short-run and long-run.Öğe Is Nuclear Power an Optimal Option for Electricity Generation in Turkey?(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2013) Boran, F. E.; Etoz, M.; Dizdar, E.In this study, a multicriteria analysis for comparing nuclear power and current energy sources for electricity generation in Turkey is performed by utilizing the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution method. In the evaluation process five energy sources (nuclear power, hydropower, windpower, natural gas, and fossil fuels) are evaluated with respect to four evaluation criteria (total generation cost, emission of CO2, efficiency, and acceptability). Based on the combination of criteria weights, four different scenarios are generated to conduct the sensitivity analysis and rank options under different circumstances. This study indicates that nuclear power is the second option after hydropower in the event that total generation cost, emission of CO2, and efficiency is more important than other criteria in generated scenarios. Turkey, whose electricity sources are mainly fossil fuels, hydropower and natural gas, should utilize nuclear power for generating electricity because diversity on electricity generation is a reliable way to satisfy electricity demand.Öğe A Multidimensional Analysis of Electricity Generation Options with Different Scenarios in Turkey(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2013) Boran, F. E.; Dizdar, E.; Toktas, I.; Boran, K.; Eldem, C.; Asal, O.Due to global warming, environmental concerns play an important role in the generation and use of energy, especially electricity, compared with other forms of energy, not only for developing countries but also the world. Turkey is one of the developing countries and the demand of electricity has increased in the last few years and is expected to continue in the future. The main energy sources for electricity generation are based on fossil fuels, lignite, hard coal, and hydro. Lignite- and hard coal-based power plants have been commonly used in Turkey. Although these power plants provide an efficient way for generating electricity with low cost, emissions of green house gases, especially carbon monoxide gas are very high. In this study, a multidimensional analysis of electricity generation options with different scenarios in Turkey is accomplished by using a modified technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution method. Efficiency, installation cost, electricity cost and emission of the carbon dioxide gas criteria, which are commonly used in evaluation of electricity generation options, are taken into consideration.
