Öğe Breast Masses in Adolescent Male(Derman Medical Publ, 2015) Cesur, Ozkan; Benli, Ali RamazanAim: The spectrum of breast lesions varies in children. Breast masses in adolescent male may arise from normal and abnormal breast development. Other causes of masses are infection, trauma, and cyst formation. Adolescent male patients present with a palpable mass is worrying for patient and his parents. In our study, we aimed to evaluate the characteristics of breast masses in adolescent males. Material and Method: We investigated 32 male pediatric patients presenting with breast masses from 2013 to 2014. Results: Thirty-two pediatric patients ranging in age from7-18 years were referred for breast ultrasound. Twenty-nine patients (%91) had gynecomastia. Two patients (%6) had post-traumatic hematoma. One patient(%3) had giant cystic mass (size 6x5x5cm) which excised. Discussion: Disorders of the adolescent breast are usually benign and their management are simple using medical strategy and mor rarely surgical therapy.Öğe The effect of ferritin, vitamin B12 and folic acid on pregnancy outcomes(E-Century Publishing Corp, 2016) Kalem, Pinar; Benli, Ali Ramazan; Koroglu, Mustafa; Benli, Neriman Cetin; Koyuncu, Murat; Cesur, Ozkan; Dane, Pakizer Banu KilicogluPurpose: A reduction occurs in levels of some minerals and vitamins due to physiological adaptation during pregnancy, and this situation causes anemia in pregnancy. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of ferritin, vitamin B12 and folate levels on outcomes of pregnancy in 3rd trimester pregnant women. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included a total of 72 pregnant women in the third trimester of pregnancy. Vitamin and mineral analyses of the patients were applied. Patients were questioned in respect of whether or not iron and vitamin supplements were taken during pregnancy, the mode of delivery and the history of postpartum problems in infant. Results: As the number of children increased, so an increase was seen in the incidence of anemia. Of the mothers of newborns with medical problems, 60% had anemia. There was no statistically significant difference in the mean birth weight according to the presence or absence of maternal anemia. Anemia in pregnant women is defined as hemoglobin level below 11.0 g/dL in the first and third trimester and below 10.5 g/dL in the second trimester. No significant difference was determined in anemia status according to the mode of delivery. No difference in anemia was detected in infants, regardless of whether or not their mothers took vitamin and mineral supplements. Conclusion: Anemia in the third trimester has no effect on the mode or time of delivery, weight and general condition of the newborn. To decide the effect of anemia on the outcome of pregnancy, further studies with more participants are needed.Öğe Evaluation of use of the 112 Emergency Ambulance Service in Karabuk City(Derman Medical Publ, 2015) Benli, Ali Ramazan; Koyunau, Murat; Cesur, Ozkan; Karakaya, Ekrem; Cure, Ruhi; Turan, Muhammet KamilAim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of pre-hospital emergency 112 ambulance services in Karabuk city. Material and Metod: This discriptive study all 112 emergency service utilizations were performed retrospectivly between 01 January-31 December 2013. For this purpose the forms of emergency calls were evalatued. Data on demografics, reasons for using ambulance services, preliminary diagnosis, the transport time that emergency medical team to the scene of event, emergency service diagnosis and reasons for to out of province medical referrals were collected from 112 call forms and emergency service charts. Results: During the study period, 21.878 patients have benefited from the 112 emergency ambulance services in Karabuk city. Of these, trauma (by15.3%) were the most common reason fort the 112 emergency calls, followed by cardiovascular diseases (11,3%). Transport time was less than 10 minutes in 67.8% of the cases and 30 minutes in 95% of the cases, respectively. In the first half hour 95% of the cases were reached. on out-of-province. Ambulances were used by the most reasons of the non-emergency(n=103) and the second reasons of cardiac patients(n=52) on out-of-province Discussion: Traumas and cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of 112 calls in Karabuk city. Most of the out-of-province referrals were due to non-emergent conditions or cardiovascular diseases. Our results highlight the importance of appropriate use of 112 emergency ambulance services. Shipped out of the province instead of ambulances for non-emergency patient should be used transport vehicles. Establishment of cardiac catheterization and open-heart surgery services will reduce out-of-province referrals.Öğe Mean platelet volume and red cell distribution width as potential new biomarkers in children with gastroesophageal reflux disease(E-Century Publishing Corp, 2019) Sevencan, Nurhayat Ozkan; Cesur, Ozkan; Cakar, Murat; Dogan, Erkan; Ozkan, Aysegul Ertinmaz; Benli, Ali RamazanThe aim of this study was to calculate the corrected rate of reflux in children with gastroesophageal reflux (GER)-like complaints by 24-hour pH monitoring and esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), and to determine the utility of mean platelet volume (MPV) and red cell distribution width (RDW) as diagnostic biomarkers of GER disease (GERD) in children. The subjects in this prospective study were 109 children, 6 to 18 years old. Of them, 74 subjects were with GER symptoms and 35 healthy controls. The subjects were divided into three groups: those who underwent 24-hour pH monitoring (Group 1), those who underwent EGD together with pH monitoring (Group 2), and the healthy controls (Group 3). The results of pH monitoring and EGD and hematological parameters with controls were compared between Groups 1 and 2. In Groups 1 and 2, the overall rate of reflux was 40%, of esophagitis was 27.8%, and of Helicobacter pylori infection was 31.2%. The MPV and RDW cut-offs in subjects with reflux were <= 8.97 (sensitivity 89%, specificity 89%) and <= 12.78 (sensitivity 80%, specificity 97%), with an area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve +/- standard error (AUC +/- SE) = 0.917 +/- 0.027 (P < 0.001) and AUC +/- SE = 0.866 +/- 0.036 (P < 0.001), respectively. The endoscopic procedures are not practical due to being invasive and expensive. However, hemogram is a simple test which can be performed in an outpatient clinic. MPV and RDW calculated in hemogram could be easy, cost-effective, and high sensitive new biomarkers that can be used in children with GERD.
