Öğe The Effect of Dorzolamide-timolol Eye drop on Intraocular Pressure Change in Intravitreal Ranibizumab Injected Patients(Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications, 2023) Coskun, MehmetPURPOSE: The objective of the study was to examine the effect of dorzolamide-timolol (DT) eye drop used before intravitreal ranibizumab (IVR) injection on intraocular pressure (IOP) change.METHODS: 50 eyes of 50 patients who received DT eye drops 1 h before IVR injection due to diabetic retinopathy and macular edema were considered Group 1, and 50 eyes of 50 patients who did not receive DT eye drops were considered Group 2. Those patients who had previously undergone intravitreal injection had intraocular surgery, and used any eye drops were not included in the study. Before the injection, IOP values were measured with a Tonopen contact handheld tonometer before the blepharostat was placed (BIOP), after the blepharostat was placed (AIOP), and at the 1st min after the injection (IIOP).RESULTS: There were 25 males and 25 females in Group 1 and 25 males and 25 females in Group 2; the mean age was 65.66 +/- 9.94 years in Group 1 and 65.54 +/- 7.43 years in Group 2 (P = 0.98). In Group 1, BIOP was 18.91 +/- 18.91, AIOP was 21.62 +/- 6.16 mmHg, and IIOP was 49.21 +/- 10.95 mmHg. In Group 2, BIOP was 20.18 +/- 4.19 mmHg, AIOP was 24.60 +/- 4.90 mmHg, and IIOP was 49.96 +/- 9.72 mmHg. IIOP-BIOP difference was 30.30 +/- 9.85 mmHg in Group 1 and 29.78 +/- 9.33 mmHg in Group 2 and the difference was not statistically significant (P = 0.78). In Group 1, the IIOP-AIOP difference was 27.58 +/- 10.60 mmHg and in Group 2, 25.36 +/- 10.46 mmHg. The difference between IIOP and AIOP was not statistically significant (P = 0.27).CONCLUSION: The use of topical DT eye drops before IVR injection does not affect the intraocular pressure change.Öğe Effects of Drug and Eye Speculum on the Intraocular Pressure in Bilateral Simultaneous Intravitreal Injections(Duzce Univ, 2018) Coskun, MehmetObjective: Evaluation of the effects of intraocular pressure (IOP) changes on the eye speculum (blepharosta) in bilateral injections of intravitreal ranibizumab (IVR) and aflibercept (IVA). Methods: Patients with diabetic retinopathy and macular edema attented to the IVR and IVA were included in the study. Patients with ocular surgery or drug use history were not included. The intraocular pressure was measured by contact hand tonometry. IOP was measured before insertion of the blepharosta (OBIOP, CBIOP), after attachment (OAIOP, CAIOP) and after injection(OIIOP, CIIOP). Results: In the IVR group, 17 males and 19 females, mean age was 67.0 +/- 8.5 years, 18 males and 18 females in the IVA group had a mean age of 64.90 +/- 6.32 years.(p = 0.12) There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of values of OBIOP, OAIOP, OIIOP, CBIOP (p values 0.38, 0.86, 0.86, 0.054 respectively). The values of CAIOP and CIIOP were statistically significantly lower in the IVA group (pvalues 0.037, 0.001 respectively). There were no statistically significant differences between the groups in terms of OBIOP-OAIOP, OBIOP-OIIOP, OAIOP-OIIOP and CBIOP-CBIOP difference values (p values 0.21,0.68,0.82,0.32 respectively). The values of CBIOP-CIIOP and CAIOP-CIIOP difference were statistically significant (respectively p values of 0.004, 0.008). Conclusion: In the IVA group, the use of closed blepharosta allows less IOP exchange.Öğe The Evaluation of Ophthalmic Findings in Women Patients With Iron and Vitamin B12 Deficiency Anemia(Assoc Research Vision Ophthalmology Inc, 2018) Coskun, Mehmet; Sevencan, Nurhayat O.Purpose: To determine whether there are differences in the central corneal thickness (CCT), retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), and ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GC-IPL) in women with iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and vitamin B12 deficiency anemia (B12DA). Methods: The patients were divided and evaluated in three groups as IDA (group 1), combined IDA-B12DA (group 2), and healthy females (group 3). Each group constituted 35 subjects. co , endothelial cell density (CD), the coefficient of variation (CV), and hexagonality (HEX) values were evaluated. Superior, nasal, inferior, and temporal retinal nerve fiber analysis were done, and mean thickness of GC-IPL complex was also evaluated. Results: CCT was found to be less (thin CCT) in group 2 as compared to group 1 and group 3 (P = 0.016 and P = 0.013, respectively). While CD measurements did not vary significantly between the groups, CV value was found to be lower in the control group as compared to that in the other groups (P = 0.001 and P = 0.002, respectively). HEX and the thicknesses of all RNFL and GC-IPL were lower in both the anemic groups as compared to the control group (P = 0.012 and P = 0.013, respectively); however, no significant difference was determined between the anemia groups. Conclusions: It should be noted that anemia is a common clinical picture particularly seen in women, and there may be a tendency toward corneal and retinal disorders in these patients. The present study found that presence in the patients with IDA and with combined IDA-B12DA may have influenced endothelial functions; also the patients with anemia had significantly thinner CCT than healthy controls. Translational Relevance: Optical coherence tomography and specular microscopy measurements may provide important data for early diagnosis and treatment of both corneal and retinal diseases according to the type of anemia in anemic women.Öğe Relationship between Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Retinopathy in Diabetic Women(Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications, 2023) Coskun, MehmetPURPOSE: To examine the relationship between the presence and severity of retinopathy in women with diabetes mellitus and sleep quality assessed using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI).METHODS: Among 90 female patients with type 2 diabetes, 30 patients without retinopathy were classified into Group 1, 30 patients with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy as Group 2, and 30 patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy as Group 3. People who had a known sleep problem, had a history of using medication other than sleeping pills that would affect sleep, had lower or upper respiratory tract disease, had history of previous surgery, or were unable to answer the survey questions appropriately were excluded from the study.RESULTS: The mean age was 52.6 +/- 6.18 years in Group 1, 55.15 +/- 8.15 years in Group 2, and 60.35 +/- 5.93 years in Group 3. While no statistical difference was observed between Groups 1 and 2 (P = 0.27), a statistical difference was observed between both Groups 1 and 3 (P = 0.01) and Groups 2 and 3 (P = 0.02). PSQI scores were found to be 5.10 +/- 1.07 in Group 1, 7.30 +/- 2.34 in Group 2, and 6.70 +/- 1.21 in Group 3. In terms of these scores, there was a statistical difference between Group 1 and both Group 2 (P = 0.01) and Group 3 (P = 0.01), while no difference was observed between Groups 2 and 3 (P = 0.31).CONCLUSION: Although the presence of retinopathy significantly impairs sleep quality in diabeticwomen, no relationship was found between the severity of retinopathy and impaired sleep quality.
