Öğe Do Families Attitudes and Behaviors Support Sustainable Water Consumption(European Center Sustainable Development, 2017) Boylu, Ayfer Aydiner; Gunay, GulayFor increasing the quality of life and sustainable improvement, the importance of reaching for drinkable, usable and clean water sources in the 21st century has increased and started to become a significant potential problem to be solved in the World. With today's busy lifestyles, people are often unaware of the amount of water they consume. With the acceleration of modern life, individuals often choose the solution that best suits their time and convenience, rather than optimizing for efficiency and environmental outcomes, since they do not find water-related activities important. Water, which is naturally regarded as an inexhaustible source, is gradually decreasing over time and disappearing day by day. Therefore this research has been planned to determine individuals' water consumption behavior at homes regarding the effective and efficient use of water sources. The sample comprised 654 individuals who resided in Safranbolu, Turkey. Data were collected through a demographic information form, Attitudes Toward Water Use (AtWC), Water Saving Behavior at the Home (WSBQ) and Sustainable Consumption Behavior Scale (SCBs). To determine the factors affecting water saving behavior at the home, correlation and hierarchical regression analyses were employed. Pearson correlation analyses revealed significant positive relationship between sustainable consumption behavior (SCBs) and saving behavior at the home (WSBQ) (r=.43; p<0.01), attitudes toward water use (AtWC) and saving behavior at the home (WSBQ) (r=.24; p<0.01). Hierarchical multiple regression analysis displayed that water saving behavior at home is influences by sustainable consumption behavior and attitudes toward water conservation. The theoretical implication of this study helps to understand the basic concepts of water saving behavior.Öğe An Examination of Factors Affecting Economic Status and Finances Satisfaction of Families: A Comparison of Metropolitan and Rural Areas(Springer, 2014) Gunay, Gulay; Boylu, Ayfer Aydiner; Bener, OzgunResearch on the family financial management behavior has gained a great impetus over 30 years. There has been a growing interest in the question of how families organize or manage their economic resources and financial satisfaction. The main purpose of this study is to examine factors affecting financial behaviors and financial satisfaction of families who live in metropolitan and rural areas. Results indicated that 45.4 % of females have determined that economic decision making are always shared by couples (Ankara 41.9 %; Karabuk 47.9 %). Among women who lived in Ankara (62.3 %) have not saving their income, while the group of Karabuk (51.4 %) have sometimes saving. Similar results have been found in terms of the expenditure behaviors among the families who are living in both of the metropolitan and rural areas. The rates of the families living both in Ankara and Karabuk who state that they have become indebted due to various reasons (Ankara 56.5 %; Karabuk 72.9 %) is higher compared to those who state they have not become indebted. Among the females who stated that they are very dissatisfied from their savings behavior, satisfied with their expenditure behaviors and dissatisfied with their debt behaviors are higher percentage (50.6 %, 47.9 %, and 48.3 % respectively).Öğe The Investigation of the Effect of Perceived Social Support on Loneliness in University Students(Sosyoekonomi Soc, 2019) Aydiner-Boylu, Ayfer; Gunay, Gulay; Ersoy, Ali FastThe present study was designed to determine the relationship between perceived social support and loneliness including the effect of demographic factors on a sample of university students. Participants in this study were students of the Hacettepe University (n = 402). Data were collected through a demographic information form, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support and UCLA Loneliness Scale. The results of the study show that loneliness scores are low for women than men. At the same time, loneliness scores of students for those who have a high level of participation in recreational activities and for those with higher levels of perceived social support were found to be low.Öğe LIFE SATISFACTION AND QUALITY OF LIFE AMONG THE ELDERLY: MODERATING EFFECT OF ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING(Gunes Kitabevi Ltd Sti, 2017) Aydiner Boylu, Ayfer; Gunay, GulayIntroduction: Increased human life expectancy has led to increases in the elderly population, both in developed and developing countries. Consequently, maintaining and raising the elderly's quality of life has become an important issue. Most studies on aging have found that a person's life satisfaction is strongly associated with their quality of life. This study investigated the moderating effect of activities of daily living on life satisfaction and quality of life. Materials and Method: The sample comprised 360 elderly people (>= 65 years old) who resided in Karabuk City, Turkey, and visited the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Health Karabuk 100. Yil Family Health Center for treatment or checkup. Data were collected using the Satisfaction with Life Scale, the World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment-Old Version, the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living, and a demographic information form. To determine the factors that affect the elderly's quality of life, hierarchical multiple regression analysis was employed. Results: As elderly individuals' levels of independently maintaining activities of daily living rise, the relationship between their satisfaction with life and quality of life grows stronger. Conclusion: Life satisfaction positively predicted the elderly's quality of life, whereas activities of daily living did not. In addition, activities of daily living moderated the relationship between life satisfaction and quality of life.Öğe TURKISH RELIABILITY AND VALIDITY STUDY OF THE PROCESS OF RETIREMENT PLANNING SCALE: THE EXAMPLE OF KARABUK UNIVERSITY(Gunes Kitabevi Ltd Sti, 2013) Gunay, GulayIntroduction: The study was performed to test the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of The Process of Retirement Planning Scale-PRePS (Noone, Stphens and Alpass, 2010) developed to measure employees' planning behaviors of preparation for the retirement years. Materials and Method: The study was conducted over a total of 216 participants who are working as academic and administrative staff at Karabuk University. The scale was made up of four subscales, namely the process of financial planning, lifestyle planning, psychosocial planning and health planning which attempt to measure the process of retirement planning behaviors of the employees. Besides The Process of Retirement Planning Scale-PRePS, to test the validity of the Turkish version of the scale, Future Time Perspective Scale and SF-36 quality of life scale were also administered to the participants. Results: The structural validity of the scale was investigated by factor analysis. The results of the factor analysis were composed of four subscales in accordance with the original form of the scale. The results indicated high convergent and criterion related validities. Reliability analyses showed that the Process of Retirement Planning Scale-PRePS had a high internal consistency (Cronbach Alpha 0.88) and high test-retest (0.86) and split half (0.87) reliability coefficients. Conclusion: The results of the factor analysis were compatible with the results of Noone, Stphens and Alpass's (2010). Based on these findings, it was concluded that the Turkish version of the PRePS had sufficiently high reliability and validity to justify its use as a tool to measure employees' retirement planning behaviors in Turkey.
