Öğe The Analysis of Jamal Khalwati's (d. 899/1494) al-Atwar al-Seb'a with Regard to Sufi Psychology(Karabuk Univ, 2017) Isitan, IbrahimThe concept of al-Atwar al-Seb'a (seven stages) is an important issue in the Khalwati tradition. Khalwati Sufis evaluates the seven stages of human ego within the spiritual experience they have experienced and have revealed the application of which measures used in self-development phases with different criteria. For this reason, a rich culture of al-Atwar al-Seb'a has been formed in the Khalwati tradition and many pamphlets have been written on this topic. It is important for today's academic world to deal with these issues within the framework of spiritual psychology. Because a new spiritual psychology tradition has begun to emerge as parallel to modern psychology. By force of the method of modern psychology its perception of self-development is more physio-psychological and this viewpoint neglects the inner/spiritual dimension of man. On the other hand, the self-development model of the Sufi tradition by force of the Islamic belief is psycho-spiritual and accordingly the spiritual development of the human ego exists. In this paper, we will reveal Jamal Khalwati's thoughts about human ego and its spiritual development in seven stages, and try to show the contribution of them to the development of Sufi psychology.Öğe The development of the Sufi Self according to Mustafa Kamal al-Din Bakri(Karabuk Univ, 2015) Isitan, IbrahimIn this article, we studied how the Sufi Self develops according to Mustafa Kamal al-Din Bakri (m. 1162/1749), a prominent sufi who was raised under the Khalwatiyya-Shabaniyya tradition. In the past, dealing with mental health and with the evolution of the human personality was left to spiritual and religious disciplines, but today these issues are reserved to psychologists and psychiatrists. Some of them have started to seek inspiration within spiritual and religious realms in an effort to apply that knowledge to their practice. They show specific interest towards sufi literature and bring sufi practices and knowledge into their own therapeutic practices. While studying the developments of human psychology focusing on human attitudes and behavior as well as their origins in the human body, we had the opportunity to study those of the sufi from a psychological perspective. When it comes to modern psychology, we studied the integrity of the self, also known as 'self realization' by observing the characteristics of someone who has attained a certain degree of perfection, in addition to this we have worked on certain methods and theories pertaining to the development of the personality. Sufism has built its own theory of the personality based on its own methods which aim at studying the basic characteristics of the spiritual evolution of the human being. Modern psychology also examines pathological human behavior and comes up with adequate therapies so as to readjust these behaviors accordingly. Likewise, sufism has an interest in inadequate human behavior - in the words of sufism 'the vices of the soul' - it also aims at readjusting these types of behavior but from a spiritual point of view. In these writings, we will be studying the transmutation of the sufi self according to the classical era sufi Ebu'lHasan al-Harakani and we will examine the two aspects of that transmutation: the psychological one and the psycho-spiritual one.
