    Taguchi method based evaluation of process parameters effects on system performance in the computer controlled cold-hot therapy device with thermoelectric module

    This paper deals with an investigation of the effect and optimization of control parameters on the system performance in the computer controlled cold-hot therapy device with thermoelectric module. The experimental studies have been performed under varying water flow rate, operating voltage and ambient temperature using design of experiment. The experiments have been planned based on Taguchi's L18 orthogonal array with each trial performed under different conditions of water flow rate, operating voltage and ambient temperature. The optimum parameter combination has been obtained by using the analysis of signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio. The level of importance of the control parameters on the system performance has been determined by using analysis of variance (ANOVA). Main effect's plots have been utilized to optimize and analyze the relation between the control parameters and the system performance. In addition, regression analysis was applied to determine mathematical equations that indicate the relation between response and control factors. As a result of measured experimental values performed using the Taguchi orthogonal array. It was found that the operating voltage was the most significant factor affecting the surface temperature and temperature difference. The number of experiments in the same or similar area in heat transfer were reduced by using the Taguchi experimental design to define optimum points. Sufficient results were obtained so that they may be used in future academic and industrial researches. © Sila Science.
