Öğe BENDING CHARACTERISTICS OF LAMINATED WOOD COMPOSITES CONSTRUCTED WITH BLACK PINE WOOD AND ARAMID FIBER REINFORCED FABRIC(Slovak Forest Products Research Inst, 2021) Karaman, Abdurrahman; Yildirim, Mehmet Nuri; Tor, OnderThe aim of this study was to determine the 4-point bending strength and modulus of elasticity in bending of Black pine wood laminated materials reinforced with aramid fiber was bonded using epoxy or polyurethane glues separately. The samples were prepared in accordance with the TS 5497 EN 408 (2006). The results of the study determined that the highest value for static bending strength was found in the laminated wood samples (83.94 N.mm(-2)) that were prepared using inter-layer aramid fiber reinforced polymer (AFRP) and epoxy glue. The highest value of modulus of elasticity in bending was found in the samples prepared with inter-layer epoxy and AFRP (10311.62 N.mm(-2)). It was observed that the samples parallel to the glue line of the laminated material showed higher performance compared to those perpendicular to the glue line. The data obtained as a result of this study demonstrated that aramid fiber reinforced Black pine wood laminated materials can be used in the building industry as building materials.Öğe The Bending Moment Resistance of Corner Joints Reinforced with Glass Fiber Polymer(Kastamonu Univ, Orman Fak, 2018) Yildirim, Mehmet Nuri; Tor, Onder; Karaman, AbdurrahmanAim of study: This study aimed to determine the effects of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) and adhesive type on the diagonal compression and tensile strength in L-type corner joints connected by a wood biscuit. Material and Methods: Medium density fiberboard coated with melamine plate (MDF-Lam), wood biscuit with a size number of 20 as the joining member, GFRP for strengthening purposes, and epoxy adhesive, polyvinyl acetate (PVAc-D4), polyurethane (PU-D4) as adhesives were used. The diagonal compression and tension tests were carried out under static load according to ASTM-D1037 standards. Main results: Results indicated that using GFRP significantly increased the diagonal compression and tensile strength of L-type corner joints connected by a wood biscuit. Highlights: It is recommended to use the combination of GFRP and epoxy adhesive to have better compression and tensile strength in the corner joints made of MDF-Lam.Öğe Bonding strength of wood materials bonded with different adhesive after aging test(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2010) Uysal, Burhanettin; Kurt, Seref; Yildirim, Mehmet NuriIn this study, it is aimed to describe the effects of adhesives (PVAc, Desmodur-VTKA and phenol formaldehyde) on Uludag fir (Abies Bornmullerina M.) and Oriental beech (Fagus Orientalis Lipsky) cut tangentially and exposed to heating tests (40, 60, and 80 C) and heating duration (30, 60 and 90 days) and controls. Consequently, when compared to control samples, the highest decrease of 26.2% in average with Oriental beech and 18.5% in average with Uludag fir was obtained with the samples bonded with D-VTKA adhesive kept for 90 days. At high temperatures phenol formaldehyde adhesives can be advised as the building material used for long terms. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. The fatigue and static strength were conducted using a three point bending test-rig. The specimens were prepared according to ISO 3129 (1975) and fatigue and static bending test were carried out according to ISO 3133 (1975). The fatigue test was carried out at 80, 70, 60, 50 and 40 % stress level that corresponded to specific percentage of material's ultimate strength modulus of rupture (MOR). However the microstructures of fatigue failures were observed by using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results were indicated that, the fatigue life of Scots pine wood amounted to over 1 million cycle when the stress level was 40 % of MOR for Scots pine and 50 % MOR for Beech. In general, fatigue life decreased as stress level increased and vice versa. The allowable design stress is based on some percentage of MOR for furniture design. On this account, the allowable design stresses for Beech and Scots pine could be set at 50 and 40 % respectively.Öğe Determination of shear force capacity of H-type box furniture joints connected with different demountable type of connection elements(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2020) Yildirim, Mehmet Nuri; Karaman, Abdurrahman; Uslu, EsraIn this study, the performances of type of demountable connectors used as connecting elements in the frame construction furniture are compared with the forces against shear force. The test samples were prepared from melamine-coated particle board (YL-Lam) and medium density fiberboard (MDF-Lam). Four types of demountable type of connection elements are used: metal L connection, plastic T connection, metal T connection and moon connection. The experimental samples were subjected to static stress tests under the critical loads that could be affected during the use. As a result of the experiments, the highest shear force was obtained from the test specimens prepared by using MDF-Lam and metal T connectors. The lowest was determined by using YL-Lam and plastic T connector. According to the results of the experiment, in the H type construction prepared with YL-Lam, when the shear force bearing capacity of the connection element is ordered from highest to lowest, respectively; Metal T, Moon, Metal L and Plastic T connectors were determined while in the construction prepared with MDF-Lam it is ordered as Metal T, Metal L, Plastic T and Moon connectors. In this study, the load-bearing capacity of the test samples and the load-deflection graph formed under this loading are given.Öğe EFFECT OF MATERIAL, ADHESIVE AND LOADING ON THE STIFFNESS OF WOODEN DOWEL JOINTS(Slovak Forest Products Research Inst, 2023) Karaman, Abdurrahman; Yildirim, Mehmet NuriThe objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of selected parameters, such as type of loading (compression and tension), the wooden dowel species, and the adhesives type on the joint stiffness. Beech, oak, and Scots pine woods were used as wooden dowel material, and polyvinylacetate (PVAc) and polyurethane (PUR) adhesives were used as adhesive agents. Elastic stiffness on diagonal tension and compression tests were applied on 120 pieces of test samples prepared. The results showed that there was found out that the highest average elastic stiffness value of 656 Nm/rad was achieved in the oak dowel joints bonded with PVAc adhesive under compression loading. The lowest average value of 293 Nm/rad was found in the Scots pine dowel joints subjected to compression stress using PUR adhesive. On average, the elastic stiffness of the oak dowel joints bonded with PVAc adhesive was 17% higher than the elastic stiffness of the Scots pine dowel joints bonded with PUR adhesive. The influence of the wooden dowel species and the adhesive type were found statistically significant.Öğe THE EFFECTS OF EDGE BANDING THICKNESS OF ULUDAG FIR BONDED WITH SOME ADHESIVES ON WITHDRAWAL STRENGTHS OF BEECH DOWEL PINS IN COMPOSITE MATERIALS(North Carolina State Univ Dept Wood & Paper Sci, 2009) Kurt, Seref; Uysal, Burhanettin; Ozcan, Cemal; Yildirim, Mehmet NuriComposite materials and wooden dowels are being used increasingly in the construction of furniture frames and inner decoration. Yet there is little information available concerning the withdrawal strength of various fasteners, and, in particular, dowels in composite materials edged solid wood edge bandings. The aim of this study was to determine the withdrawal strengths of 6, 8, 10 mm diameter dowels produced from beech with respect to edge of a medium-density fiberboard (MDF) or particleboard (PB) edged with 5, 10 and 15 mm thickness of solid wood edge banding of uludag fir, bonded with different adhesives. According to TS 4539 standard, the effects of edge banding thickness, dimension of dowels, type of composite materials and type of adhesives used for edge banding on the withdrawal strength were determined. The highest (6.37 N/mm(2)) withdrawal strength was obtained in beech dowels with 8 mm diameter for MDF with 5 mm thickness of solid wood edge banding of uludag fir bonded with D-VTKA adhesive. According to results, if the hole wall and the surface of dowel are smooth then the adhesives give better mechanical adhesion with dowels and composite materials.
