Öğe Effects of channel blocking on the spontaneous firing regularity of scale-free Hodgkin-Huxley neuronal network(2011) Yilmaz, E.; Özer, M.; Çavusoglu, A.The channel noise stemming from voltage-gated ion channels, which embedded in excitable neuronal membranes has a great impact on the production and propagation of the action potential in stochastic Hodgkin-Huxley (HH) neurons. In this study, we investigate the effects of sodium and potassium channels blockage and the average degree of connectivity on the spontaneous collective firing regularity on scale-free network which consisting of stochastic HH neurons. The obtained results reveal that potassium channel blockage has constructive effects on the firing regularity whereas sodium channel blockage has disruptive effects on the firing regularity. On the other hand, the spontaneous firing regularity exhibits coherence resonance depending on both the channel blockage scaling factor and the neuronal membrane area. The results also indicate that there is a lower boundary for the average degree of the network connectivity where the coherence resonance exists when the value of the network connectivity is greater than this lower boundary. © 2011 IEEE.Öğe Experimental determination of interfacial energy for solid Sn in the Sn-Ag alloy by using radial heat flow type solidification apparatus(Elsevier, 2011) Saatci, B.; Meydaneri, F.; Ozdermir, M.; Yilmaz, E.; Ulgen, A.The equilibrated grain boundary groove shapes for solid Sn in equilibrium with the (Sn-3.84 at.% Ag) eutectic liquid were observed from a quenched sample at the eutectic temperature for about 18 days with a radial heat flow apparatus. This is the first time that the equilibrated grain boundary groove shapes of solid Sn in equilibrium with the (Sn-3.84 at.% Ag) eutectic liquid have been observed using radial heat flow apparatus. From the observed grain boundary groove shapes, the Gibbs-Thomson coefficient, the solid-liquid interfacial energy and grain boundary energy for solid Sn in equilibrium with the (Sn-3.84 at% Ag) eutectic liquid were determined to be (8.54+/-0.42) x 10(-8)Km, (113.32+/-11.33) mJ/m(2) and (216.11+/-23.77) mJ/m(2), respectively. Recently, it has been shown that existing network models fail to incorporate two common features of real networks in nature: First, real networks are open and continuously grow by addition of new elements, and second, a new element connects preferentially to an element that already has a large number of connections. Therefore, a new network model, called a scale-free (SF) network, has been proposed based on these two features. In this study, we study the subthreshold periodic stimulus encoding on a stochastic SF neuronal network based on the collective firing regularity. The network consists of identical Hodgkin-Huxley (HH) neurons. We show that the collective firing (spiking) regularity becomes maximal at a given stimulus frequency, corresponding to the frequency of the subthreshold oscillations of HH neurons. We also show that this best regularity can be obtained if the coupling strength and average degree of connectivity have their optimal values. ©2010 IEEE.
