Öğe The Effects of Using Different Adhesive on the Thickness Swelling Ratio of LVL Produced from Scotch Pine(North Carolina State Univ Dept Wood & Paper Sci, 2022) Esen, Rasit; Likos, Erkan; Zengin, GozdeMost wood properties are affected by changes in moisture content below the wood fiber saturation point. In this study, the thickness swelling ratios of laminated veneer lumber (LVL) produced from Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) bonded by using polyvinyl acetate (PVAc), polymeric diphenyl methane diisocyanate (pMDI), and a mixture of them were evaluated. Thickness swelling of the samples was calculated after different waiting times under water. While the lowest thickness swelling ratio (1.65%) was determined from bonding with PVAc 92%-pMDI 8%, for 2 hours, the highest thickness swelling ratio (6.35%) was observed from bonding with PVAc 98%-pMDI 2% adhesive for 96 hours. As a result, adding pMDI to the PVAc adhesive reduced the rate of swelling of the test specimens. For this reason, the material can be used potentially in wet or humid places.Öğe EXPLANATION OF ORDER AND CHAOS THROUGH SEQUENCES: ABSTRACT THINKING IN BASIC DESIGN EDUCATION(Anadolu Univ, 2023) Sheibaniaghdam, Daniz; Zengin, Gozde; Hajiamiri, MiladThis study aimed to demonstrate high potential in using mathematics to facilitate the transmission of design principles in basic design education. It provided an example of how students' previous mathematical knowledge could be utilized to assist them in understanding the initial design principles. In this respect, sequence as a mathematical concept was used to explain the concepts of order and chaos to the first-year industrial design students who had basic mathematics knowledge. The case was studied as part of a workshop in which students from a Karabuk University's basic design studio participated. As part of the workshop's theme, waste materials were utilized in the design process. The purpose of this study was to provide a teaching method for improving the dialog between teachers and students in basic design studio without providing existing examples which can interfere the learning process and limit or hinder the students' creativity. A similar methodology can be developed based on other mathematical concepts in order to clarify and teach design principles in the future.Öğe GENDER CONTEXT OF USER EXPECTATIONS IN ADOLESCENTS BEDROOM FURNITURE(Istanbul Kultur Univ, 2017) Zengin, GozdeIn the last period, users have begun to be included in the design process in determining expectations and needs. In this study, teenagers room furniture design was considered in terms of user focused design and the gender context of user expectations and needs was tried to be understood. The reason for choosing adolescents bedroom furniture instead of other furniture is the inadequate number of studies on the expectations of adolescents from their bedroom. The determination of general user expectations and the effect of gender differences on user expectations of the adolescents bedroom are the aim of this study. The data were collected by face-to-face interviews with the semi-structured interview formula developed by the researcher. The interviewers consist of 60 girls, 30 girls and 30 boys in adolescence. To discover for what and how adolescents would use bedroom products, respondents were induced to imagine life with bedroom products and 'day dream' interactions with these products. The data was analyzed in SPSS program and commented. Analyzes made reveal that users have different expectations according to gender factor. It has been found that girls have more expectations in parallel with the more time spent in their rooms than in men. While the colors of the product group can be changed, the diffuser can help to hide, the form can be differentiated, the storage space can be increased when needed and the suitable design for the tight spaces are the priority expectations of the female users, while the priority expectations of the male users are the products designed in harmony with the technology.
