dc.description.abstract | ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of non-pharmacological pain control methods, such as massage application with menthol cream, onpain after the third molar surgery.Material and Methods100 healthy individuals who were 18-48 years oldwith impacted third molars were included in study. The patients were randomly divided into two groupsas routine medical analgesic treatment group (n: 50)and the group of massage application with mentholcream postoperatively (n: 50). Postoperative pain assessment was performed on the 2nd, 6th, 8th, 12th, 24th and 48th hours and on the 3rd, 5th and 7th dayspostoperatively using a 100 mm Visual Analogue Scale (VAS).ResultsThere was no statistically significant difference between the mean ages and gender distributions of the cases (p>0.05). In the evaluation of pain levels (VASscores), statistically significant differences were foundbetween the group receiving routine medical analgesic treatment and the massage group and in the intra-group evaluations (p <0.05, p:0.001; p<0.01).ConclusionIn this study, non-pharmacological pain control methods such as massage application with menthol cream had a significant impact on the postoperative painafter oral surgical procedures. In this result, it is thought that alternative pain control methods can be safelyused as postoperative supportive treatment. | en_US |
