dc.description.abstractIn this article, we studied how the Sufi Self develops according to Mustafa Kamal al-Din Bakri (m. 1162/1749), a prominent sufi who was raised under the Khalwatiyya-Shabaniyya tradition. The development of the sufi self relates to the transformation of the person's inner life through climbing spiritual stages of sufi life and their influence on the person's identity and personality. In the introduction, we briefly studied self-development according to psychology and sufism, then analyzed the notion of self-development according to our author. The sufi's view of sufi self-development is being considered under three major aspects: the relationship between exoterism and esoterism, struggles and Sufi exercises, relationship between guide and disciple. We started by studying the relationship between exoterism and esoterism in order to focus on the balance between inner life and outer life, then came the importance of struggling and practicing exercises in order to reach this balance and finally the relationship between the guide and the disciple travelling together on their quest to fulfill the spiritual journey. With this study and by analyzing the subject of Sufi self-development through these three topics, we aimed at contributing to clarify sufi psychology within the frame of spiritual psychology.en_US
