In this study, Al / Y2O3 metal matrix nanocomposites (2 and 4 wt. %) were fabricated by powder metallurgy route. The microstructure and density of the fabricated samples were investigated. Microstructure characterization shows that the homogenous distribution of particulates was achieved. Furthermore, the corrosion behaviour of the samples was systematically investigated in 1 M HCl solution by potentiodynamic and immersion tests for temperature of 20°C and 50 °C. In order tounderstand the corrosion mechanisms, SEM study was performed. The potentiodynamic corrosion test results show that Al / 4Y2O3 composite has the best corrosion performance at room temperature. After the immersion tests, the weight loss of the composites has higher than that of pure Al at elevated temperature (50 ºC). Pitting and grain boundary corrosion were observed. The wear tests were performed for the samples under dry sliding conditions. The addition of Y2O3 particles give rise to significant increase in wear performance.en_US
