Özet

In addition to being a physical need for people, the use of water for body cleansing and architecture in 64 villages of Safranbolu district of Karabuk province, strucutres were evaluated in terms of architectural and ornamentation programs. All of the fountains, 9 of them have inscriptions, are dated between 18th and 20th centuries. Fountains with and without storage differ according to the facade layouts. In them, there are qualified examples of stone ornamentations. The number of those actively used is in the minority. During our reserach while there are 110 fountains in the center of Safranbolu, it was identified that the number of fountains in all the villages of the district was about 1/4 of the center. The village fountains are largely unfortunate in terms of being preserved. Although it is regrettable that the results of the our research, some of the fountains whose registration works were initiated by us, were renewed during this long time period, it is very important for outcomes of our research that their previous situations were documented, the protection of some of them and the positive returns to our awareness-raising efforts.
