Öğe Comparison of the effects of diclofenac potassium and tenoxicam on postoperative pain, swelling, and trismus following third molar surgery(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2018) Cebi, Ahmet Taylan; Kasapoglu, Metin Berk; Eren, Selin; Kasapoglu, CetinBackground/aim: This study aimed to compare two nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agents in relation to pain, swelling, and trismus following impacted third molar surgery. Materials and methods: The study was a randomized and a double-blinded study and included 50 healthy individuals. After the operation, patients were randomly assigned to 2 groups in which diclofenac potassium and tenoxicam were used. Impacted third molars were surgically extracted with local anesthesia. Pain was assessed postoperatively by visual analog scale at the 2nd, 6th, 8th, 12th, 24th, and 48th hours and on the 3rd, 5th, and 7th days. Swelling was evaluated using the method of Ustun et al. and trismus was measured with calipers on the postoperative 3rd and 7th days. Results: There was statistically significant difference between the groups in VAS levels at the 2nd and 6th hours; however, VAS levels of the tenoxicam group were significantly lower as compared to diclofenac potassium at the 8th, 12th, 24th, and 48th hours and on the 3rd, 5th, and 7th days (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). No difference was noted regarding trismus and swelling between the groups. Conclusion: Diclofenac potassium and tenoxicam are similarly effective for reduction of swelling and trismus following the extraction of mandibular third molars; however, tenoxicam surpasses diclofenac potassium for controlling pain.Öğe DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY LEVELS IN A GROUP OF ELDERLY WITH TEMPOROMANDIBULAR DISORDERS(Gunes Kitabevi Ltd Sti, 2021) Cebi, Ahmet Taylan; Yilmaz, Nihat; Karayurek, Fatih; Gulses, AydinIntroduction: The objective of this study was to assess stress and anxiety in a sample of elderly patients suffering from temporomandibular joint disorders who did not have previously diagnosed emotional disturbances. It is well known that patients presenting with temporomandibular joint disorders are more commonly affected by anxiety and depression. However, there is a lack of data regarding the prevalence of undiagnosed anxiety and emotional stress disorders among elderly patients with temporomandibular joint disorders. Materials and Method: Clinical examination was performed using Research Diagnostic Criteria (Axis I). Patients with previously diagnosed and managed psychiatric and psychological disorders were excluded. Magnetic resonance imaging findings were also used to confirm the diagnosis. Beck Depression Inventory and Beck Anxiety Inventory forms were obtained to assess stress and anxiety levels. Results: A total of 125 patients (103 [82.4%] women and 22 [17.6%] men) aged 60 to 87 (71.89 +/- 10.39) years were included. The highest depression and anxiety scores were found among patients suffering from bruxism, followed by those with disc displacement without reduction and myofascial pain syndrome. All the patients showed significantly elevated depression levels. Conclusion: The emotional health status of elderly patients with intraand extra-articular temporomandibular joint disorders should be attentively assessed.Öğe Effects of hyaluronic acid and gamma-radiated mineralized allografts on the healing of rat tibial defects(Cukurova Univ, Fac Medicine, 2020) Gas, Selin; Olgac, Necat Vakur; Cebi, Ahmet Taylan; Kasapoglu, CetinPurpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of hyaluronic acid (HyA) and gamma-radiated mineralized allografts (Gr-MAs) on the healing of bone defects in rat tibiae. Materials and Methods: Fifty-two male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly allocated to four groups: Gr-MA, HyA, Gr-MA combined with HyA (Gr-MA + HyA), and controls with empty defects. The animals were sacrificed on the 7th and 21st postoperative days. The inflammation, necrosis, fibrosis, new bone formation, and bone healing scores were evaluated on the basis of the histopathological findings. Results: The amount of new bone formation was found to be significantly greater in the control group than in the experimental groups. In addition, the healing scores were statistically higher in the control and the Gr-MA + HyA groups. Comparisons of the control, graft, and HyA groups indicated that the control group exhibited significantly less necrosis on the 7th day; however, on the 21st day, there were no statistically significant differences among the groups. There were no statistically significant differences among the groups in terms of the inflammation and fibrosis levels on the 7th or 21st days. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, the application of HyA alone and the addition of HyA to Gr-MA did not improve bone regeneration in rat tibial defects.Öğe Effects of Preemptive Single Dose Sustained Release NonSteroidal Anti- Inflammatory Drugs on Postoperative Complications Following Third Molar Surgery(Duzce Univ, 2021) Cebi, Ahmet Taylan; Kasapoglu, Metin BerkObjective: The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of two preemptive sustained-release non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs in terms of pain, edema and trismus following third molar surgery. Methods: Overall, 30 patients with double-sided vertically positioned impacted third molars were included in this study. The study was randomized and double- blinded. 30 minutes before the surgery, patients were given sustained-release (SR) dexketoprofen trometamol 75 mg and following the surgery the drug administration continued postoperatively for 1 week, once a day. 2 weeks later, the same procedure was applied for the counterside impacted third molar with 75 mg. sustained-release (SR) diclofenac sodium. The pain was assessed postoperatively by VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) levels at the 6th, 8th, 12th, 24th and 48th hours and on the 3rd, 5th, and 7th days. Edema and trismus measurements were evaluated on the postoperative 2nd and 7th days. Results: There was a statistically significant difference between the groups in VAS levels at 6th, 8th, 12th, 24th, and 48th hours, and on the 3rd and 5th days (P <0.01). Dexketoprofen trometamol SR group had lower VAS levels than diclofenac sodium SR group. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of mean trismus and edema measurement on the 2nd and 7th days (P<0.05). Conclusions: Dexketoprofen trometamol SR and diclofenac sodium SR are similarly effective for the reduction of edema and trismus following impacted third molar surgery; however, dexketoprofen trometamol SR is found to be more efficient in reducing pain.Öğe Efficiency of topical and systemic flurbiprofen on pain and edema after impacted third molar surgery and comparison of gastrointestinal adverse effects(Cukurova Univ, Fac Medicine, 2020) Cebi, Ahmet TaylanPurpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of systemic and topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents on postoperative pain and edema and also gastrointestinal side effects after impacted third molar surgery. Materials and Methods: In this clinical study, 100 healthy patients with mandibular impacted third molar teeth in a similar position were included. After the operation, patients were divided into two groups, one group received Flurbiprofen tablets and the other group received Flurbiprofen 0.25% Oral spray. The pain was assessed postoperatively by Visual Analog Scale (VAS). The edema evaluation was measured on preoperative and postoperative 2nd and 7th days. Gastrointestinal adverse effects related to the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as nausea, heartburn, dyspepsia, vomiting, and diarrhea were recorded according to information received from patients. Results: There was a statistically significant difference between the groups with regard to Visual Analog Scale levels at 6th, 8th, 12th, 24th, and 48th hours. 2nd-day edema measurements of the systemic nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug group were found to be statistically lower than the local-topical nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug group. Conclusion: Although the efficacy of topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs on pain and edema is lower than systemic nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, it may be preferred because it has less gastrointestinal side effects.Öğe Evaluation of Sleep Quality, Depression and Anxiety Levels in Trigeminal Neuralgia Patients(Galenos Publ House, 2018) Cebi, Ahmet TaylanObjective: Trigeminal neuralgia is one of the most common causes of chronic neuropathic facial pain. Psychiatric and psychosocial disorders such as especially depression, anxiety disorder and sleep disorders are more frequent in patients with trigeminal neuralgia; however, a clear temporal-causal relationship between trigeminal neuralgia with specific psychiatric and psychosocial disorders has not been well established. Our aim in this study is to compare the depression and anxiety levels, and sleep quality among patients with trigeminal neuralgia and healthy control group. Materials and Methods: A total of 64 patients (36 females, 28 males) were enrolled to study which 32 patients (19 females, 13 males) were diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia and 32 healthy volunteers (17 females, 15 males) as a control group. the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality index, Beck Anxiety scale, Beck Depression inventory and socio-demographic data form were used as assessment scales. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in the socio-demographic assessments of the groups (p>0.05). Depression and anxiety levels in patients with trigeminal neuralgia were found to be statistically significantly higher than the control group, and sleep quality was statistically significantly lower than the control group (p<0.001). Conclusion: Trigeminal neuralgia might increase the risk of depressive disorder, anxiety disorder and sleep disorder. Therefore, an effective treatment of pain will help to reduce the depression and anxiety, and improve the quality of life in trigeminal neuralgia patients. In addition, treatment of depressive disorders such as depression and anxiety in these patients will affect the prognosis of disease in a positive.Öğe The Impact of COVID-19 Vaccination on Anxiety Levels of Turkish Dental Professionals and Their Attitude in Clinical Care: A Cross-Sectional Study(Mdpi, 2021) Karayuerek, Fatih; Cebi, Ahmet Taylan; Guelses, Aydin; Ayna, MustafaBackground: The current study aimed to assess the anxiety and fear levels and the attitude towards clinical care, such as the use of personal protective equipment and number of patients examined, before and after COVID-19 vaccination among Turkish dental professionals. Methods: A questionnaire including socio-demographical characteristics and clinical data regarding the number of patients, the use of personal protective equipment, vaccine confidence interval, positive or negative COVID-19 diagnosis, and fear and anxiety levels were examined. Results: A total of 475 dentists (196 men and 279 women) participated. Overall, the vaccination had a positive effect on the decrease of fear and anxiety levels of dental professionals. It was observed that the number of interventional procedures significantly increased after vaccination. Besides that, the amount of personal protective equipment used in patients, especially after the vaccination, has decreased. Conclusion: Despite the positive effects of vaccination on the anxiety levels of dental professionals, protective measurements should further be the main concern, regardless of the vaccination status of both the dental professional and the patient.Öğe Presence of tinnitus and tinnitus-related hearing loss in temporomandibular disorders(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2023) Cebi, Ahmet TaylanObjective To evaluate the presence of tinnitus and tinnitus-related hearing loss in individuals with temporomandibular joint disorders. Methods In the study, 288 patients with temporomandibular joint complaints and 33 patients with both temporomandibular and tinnitus complaints were evaluated. The Tinnitus Handicap Inventory was used in the evaluation of tinnitus. Pure tone audiometry test was used to evaluate the presence and degree of hearing loss. The Student'st-test and Independent Samplet-test were applied to compare between groups. Results The incidence of tinnitus was found to be 11.46% among patients with temporomandibular disorders. Tinnitus and tinnitus severity levels were found to have significant differences in patients with temporomandibular disorders. No significant relationships were found between right and left ear pure tone audiometry test results in patients. Conclusion There is a relationship between aural symptoms, tinnitus, and temporomandibular disorders. Patients with temporomandibular disorders should be evaluated for otological symptoms.Öğe Ultrasonographic evaluation of masseter muscle thickness in patients with disk displacement with reduction(Springer, 2019) Cebi, Ahmet TaylanObjectives This study was performed to ultrasonographically assess the masseter muscle thicknesses of individuals with disk displacement with reduction. Methods The thickness of the masseter muscle in 100 patients (28 male, 72 female; average age 34 years) who presented with one-sided temporomandibular joint pain and a clicking sound and were diagnosed with disk displacement with reduction was measured in relaxation and at maximum contraction using ultrasonography. Results In the contracted position, the difference in the masseter muscle thickness between the healthy side and the side with disk displacement with reduction was statistically significant (p < 0.05). However, no statistically significant difference was found between the two sides in the relaxed position. Conclusions Obvious ultrasonographic changes of the masseter muscle were found in patients with temporomandibular disk displacement with reduction, and these changes might be related to unilateral chewing. Individuals with anterior disc displacement probably chew unilaterally because of pain and clicking.
