Öğe Analysis of International Tests (PISA, TIMSS and PIRLS) in the Context of Neoliberal Education Policies and Equality of Opportunity in Education(Karabuk Univ, 2014) Celebi, Nurhayat; Guner, Halim; Kaya, Gulsah Tasci; Korumaz, MithatUntil today most of the study on the relationship between Economics and Education has been discussed. As a result education has been perceived as a tool which serves for economic policies. It is commonly accepted that the unequal system designed by capital policies has been reproduced via education. By the way, setting standards for education and assimilate to educational systems to each other all around the world on the purpose of marketing economies is thought to be a fundamental aim of neo-liberal policies. Worldwide tests such as PISA, TIMMS and PIRLS which have effect to reveal the need for reforms for countries, are the keys of setting similar educational systems in different countries or societies. The final reason of revealing these needs is more competitive educational systems for more competitive market policies. Unequal order both in education and economic policies might be deeper according to socio-economic classes. However these worldwide tests' results suggests countries to have more equal educational systems, they cause more deeper unfair application in educational systems which aims to keep up with more successful ones. The aim of this research is to discuss these theoretical problems in the light of the literature. It is highly expected to contribute changing process in Turkey.Öğe Attitudes of Teachers toward Multicultural Education(Iclel Conferences, 2016) Celebi, Nurhayat; Atasayar, OzerThe purpose of this study is to examinate the attitudes toward multicultural education (MCE) of teachers working in elementary and secondary schools by demographic variables. The Teacher Multicultural Attitude Survey (TMAS) was conducted to a random sample of 649 teachers working in 32 elementary and secondary schools in Kucucekmece district of Istanbul. The research was employed using a quantitative method based on survey model. Percentages, arithmetic means, independent samples t-tests and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to analyse the data collected in the study. No significant difference was found in the teachers' attitudes toward MCE by age, years of service, level of education, branches, and type of school they worked in. On the other hand, the study showed significant difference in teachers' attitudes toward MCE by gender, where male teachers showed to have more positive attitude towards MCE than their female teachers.Öğe An Evaluation of Courses and Fine Arts Activities Organized by the Municipality of Istanbul, Turkey, during the Lifelong Learning Process(Iclel Conferences, 2017) Dogan, Pesent; Celebi, NurhayatThis paper aims to evaluate the courses and art education activities during the lifelong learning process organized by the Municipality of Istanbul for adults. Turkey's Ministry of National Education, local governances and private establishments work on and develop projects for the lifelong learning process, winch was added to objectives of the Bologna Process intended to create a European Higher Education Area. The projects are generally in parallel with the needs of the society and organizations. Two million six hundred people have benefited from the Istanbul Art and Vocation Training Courses (ISMEK) provided by the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul between the years of 1996 and 2017. Courses were offered in 540 branches of 35 main branches in 1714 classrooms in 235 course centers of the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul. This paper analyzes documents in a qualitative research pattern. In conclusion, the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul performs an important function in adult education.Öğe Examining Teachers' Value Perceptions According to Different Variables(Kamla-Raj Enterprises, 2014) Celebi, NurhayatThe purpose of the present study was to determine teachers' perceptions of value based on different variables. In the research, 40 items scale was employed, as a means of data collection including Portrait Values Scale. This research, conducted in 12 high schools in Kadikoy, Istanbul was designed to investigate 357 teachers of high school who participated in the study. While examining the process of datum through the SPSS statistics package program, descriptive statistical techniques were used. With regards to the teachers' value perception, the teachers considered security and stimulation value dimensions more important than other values. When the relationship between the value dimensions and the independent variables Were examined, there was a. significant difference between the gender, age and seniority as well as no difference in branch variable. It was recommended that teachers should be more proficient in their practices in the education process to ensure that students get universal values.Öğe An Overview of Researches in Foreign Language Teaching Process in Turkey: A Content Analysis Study(Iclel Conferences, 2018) Celebi, Nurhayat; Araskal, Secil; Kutlu, HayriyeThe purpose of this study was to analyze the studies conducted in five popular education journals and in Council of Higher Education Thesis Center in a holistic point of view, to determine there search tendency in language teaching and to detect the differences and similarities of language teaching studies. In this study, descriptive content analysis and categorical analysis techniques were used. The universe of the current study was consist of studies indexed in Council of Higher Education Thesis Center, five popular education journals. The sample of this study determined using the sampling method, consisted of 117 studies. The findings of the research were presented in tables. The results of the current study were discussed in line with the related literature and some suggestions were presented.Öğe Paramilitary Youth Organizations within the Framework of Training Citizen-Militia Conception in the Second Constitutional Period(Karabuk Univ, 2018) Celebi, Nurhayat; Asan, Hatice Tezer; Asan, EnginIn this study, the struggle against paramilitary organizations and associations founded during the Second Constitutional period when the conception of nation-state and the concept of citizen-militia gained momentum in European states has been scrutinized. The research is a qualitative study based on a document analysis. After the traumas of wars in the Ottoman Empire, which entered the process of rapidly losing the lands spreading over three continents, the education mentality has been re-examined within the framework of citizenship conception. In addition to these inquiries and innovations, which began especially in the military area, they also manifested themselves with educational programs and schools centered on military regimes. This paradigm shift, which accelerated especially with the 18th century, soldier-son themed citizen perception and the current dominant patriarchal moral shave had reflections on education mentality and practice of social structure organized by the state and they turned into bringing up sons as warriors, power-owners and citizens ready to sacrifice for their motherland.Öğe A Study on the Use of Social Networks by Turkish and German University Students in the Globalization Process(Iclel Conferences, 2018) Celebi, Nurhayat; Selcuk, Gulenaz; Peker, Huriye SevincToday's rapidly evolving technology is expanding the use of innovative communication technologies and their usage areas. to traditional communication technologies today; smartphones, laptop computers, handheld computers, and tablets are also added. Wireless communication technology removes time and space limits, allowing people to communicate both voiced and visual whenever and wherever they wish. Every day, millions of people communicate with each other through social networking networks and share their experience day by day with other network users. The social networks that people often use are also affecting interpersonal relationships. The purpose of this research is to determine the aims of Turkish and German university students to use social networks and how effective social influence is in interpersonal communication. A total of 338 students, 236 Turkish students studying at Karabuk University and 102 German students studying at Kassel University in Germany, participated in the research in the academic year of 2016-2017. A questionnaire developed by Ozdayi (2010), which will reveal the use of social networks by students as a data collection tool, was used. The questionnaire contains 11 open-ended questions and 13 items of social effect dimension of social networks developed as Likert type. Percentages, mean and t test for binary comparison were used as statistical analysis in the study. According to research findings; all students have smartphones and they use whatsapp, facebook and youtube most from social networks. By students, social media is used to look at mails, homework, study, follow current events, read news, communicate with friends, make new friends, get informed about activities, share videos and photos and have fun. Also by students travel, shopping, technology and cinema blogs are the most preferred. In the survey, in the social dimension of social networks; there was no significant difference between the groups regarding communication, self-expression, staying out of the group, becoming popular, joining groups, getting social environment, getting status in social environment and sharing. On the other hand, social networking has become an important means of communication and interaction among people today. For this reason, academicians should encourage students who are interested in new technology and communication applications to support the achievement of up-to-date information within the context of lifelong learning, and to conduct research for their own development in the teaching-learning process.
