Öğe DFT Calculation, Molecular Docking, Biological Activity, and Crystal Structure of (E)-2-((4-tert-Butylbenzylimino)Methyl)-4-Methoxy-Phenol(Pleiades Publishing Inc, 2019) Zeyrek, C. T.; Tumer, Y.; Kiraz, A.; Demir, N.; Yapar, G.; Boyacioglu, B.; Yildiz, M.(E)-2-((4-tert-butylbenzylimino)methyl)-4-methoxyphenol is synthesized by the reaction of 4-tert-buthylbenzylamine with 5-methoxysalicylaldehyde. The structure of the Schiff base is investigated by FT-IR, UV-visible, and H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, and X-ray data. Moreover, the molecular structure, molecular electrostatic potential surfaces (MEP), frontier molecular orbitals, and nonlinear optical properties (NLO) are also investigated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The experimental and calculated results show that the phenol-imine form of the compound is more favoured than the keto-amine form. The most energy favourable docked structures are obtained from the rigid molecular docking of the compound with DNA. The compound binds at the active site of DNA proteins by weak non-covalent interactions. UV-Vis spectroscopy studies of the interactions between the compounds and calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) show that the compounds interact with CT-DNA via the electrostatic and intercalative binding. The compound inhibits the frameshift and base pair mutations in the absence of S9 mix with a high inhibition rate. Also, the molecular docking is made to identify the interaction between the ligand and DNA.Öğe Exposure to domestic violence and its effects on adolescents: A survey among Turkish students(Wiley-Blackwell Publishing, 2019) Oguztürk, Ö.; Demir, N.; Bülbül, S.; Türkel, Y.; Ünlü, E.Problem: Exposure to domestic violence is an important social problem. What remains unknown are the effects of domestic violence on Turkish adolescents. Methods: This study was performed in Kırıkkale, Turkey, to determine the state of verbal and/or physical domestic violence and its effects on adolescent behavior. A total of 1,807 students (44.4% female and 55.6% male) with a mean age of 15.1 ± 1.6 years at two high schools and five elementary schools were enrolled in the study and completed questionnaires that surveyed their exposure to domestic violence and its possible relationship to their disruptive behaviors. Findings: Twenty-three percent of the students were exposed to violence. Among those, 75% had been exposed to violence within the family, 53% by their friends and 17% by their teachers. Of those exposed to domestic violence, 70% were exposed only verbally and 24% only physically. The economic level of the family, gender, marital status of the parents, and education level of the father were significant factors on violence exposure within the family. The results showed that the rates of being involved in a fight, getting injured at a fight, using a gun, bringing knives (mostly pocket knives) to school and using it were higher in children exposed to domestic violence than with the children who were not. Conclusions: To address the impact of domestic violence on teens and possibly decrease the adolescent's violent behavior and its consequences, policies aiming to reduce violence in the social environments of adolescents are needed. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Öğe Socio-demographic characteristics of caregivers of home health care patients(Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University, 2019) Dagdeviren, T.S.; Dagdeviren, M.; Demir, N.; Atatorun, M.; Özsahin, O.A.; Adahan, D.Objectives: In this study, it is aimed to determine the socio-demographic characteristics of caregivers of the patients receiving Home Health Service (HHS). Materials and Methods: The caregivers of the patients receiving care from HHS have been included in this cross-sectional study. A data collecting form has been used to evaluate the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of the caregivers. Results: Primary caregivers of the 80 patients who benefits from HHS have been included in the study. Of the 80 caregivers, 85.00% (n: 68) are female and 15.00% (n: 12) are male. 63.75% of the patients are between 35-64 years of age. 86.25% are satisfied with the care, 70.00% feels self-sufficient with their care, 56.25% needs care-related training-consulting. It is stated that 41.25% of caregivers feel exhausted, 43.75% feels weakness-helplessness, 42.50% experience communication problems with the patient, 78.75% needs help. The percentage of pre-maintenance health status very good-good is 90.00%, while the percentage of those who are in good health after the maintenance is 20.00%. The most challenging conditions are determined as bathing with 46.25% and diapering with 41.25%. Of the caregivers, 27.50% use antidepressants, 15.00% use sleeping pill, and only 21.25% have good sleep quality. When caregivers are asked to give Home Health Services a score out of 10, their score is 9.0±1.0. Conclusion: The scope and function of home health services is important for caregivers as well as for patients. Determining the care needs of caregivers and supporting them in this direction is important for the quality and integrity of the service provided. © 2019 Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University. Children with refractive error were consecutively enrolled from the outpatient eye disease clinic at the blinded for peer review. Seventy-six Turkish children were thirty-two female and Forty-four male, aged 6–16 years, participated in this study. Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Revised was used for Intelligence quotient. Full Intelligence quotient score and verbal Intelligence quotient, picture completion, similarities comprehension, digit span subgroups in children with myopia were higher than that of hypermetropia group (p<0.05). Present study indicated cognitive ability in children with myopia is higher than that of hypermetropia children. The mechanisms of high cognitive ability in children with myopia should be described in further studies. © 2022 Ondokuz Mayis Universitesi. T.; Boyacioglu, B.; Demir, N.; Tumer, Y.; Kiraz, A.; Unver, H.; Yildiz, M.In the present study, a Schiff base (E)-24(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenylimino)methyl]-4,6-dichlorophenol has been synthesized. Its spectroscopic and X-ray single -crystal data have been compared with the results of theoretical calculations based on the DFT method, as well as molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), HOMO and LUMO, and nonlinear optical (NLO) effects Antimicrobial activity of the compound has been tested against some bacteria and fungi. According to UV-Vis and agarose gel electrophoresis methods, the compound interacts with DNA electrostatically and breaks it oxidatively. Antioxidant activity of the compound measured by the DPPH method, is lower than that of BHT.
