Öğe BODY IMAGE, DYSFUNCTIONAL ATTITUDES, AND DEPRESSION IN AESTHETIC SURGERY PATIENTS(Medknow Publications & Media Pvt Ltd, 2014) Barlas, Gul Unsal; Karaca, Semra; Onan, Nevin; Oz, Yuksel Can; Gurkan, Aysel; Isik, Isil; Sumeli, FatmaNowadays, the rate of seeking aesthetic surgery is ever increasing. The importance of conducting psychosocial evaluation of the patients as well as evaluating physical health status during the perioperative period has been emphasized. The aim of the present study is to examine body image, dysfunctional attitudes, and depression in aesthetic surgery patients during the preoperative period. The study design was cross-sectional, descriptive, and correlational. Data was collected during July 1st - September 1st, 2011 from 139 patients who presented at the aesthetic surgery clinic of two private hospitals, were admitted to the hospital for elective aesthetic surgery, and accepted to participate in the study. The Information Form, the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire (MBSRQ), the Dysfunctional Attitude Scale (DAS), and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) were administered to the patients. The mean MBSRQ score of the patients was 205.31 +/- 25.42, the mean DAS score was 180.97 +/- 29.62, and the mean BDI score was 7.28 +/- 6.9. It was determined that there were significant correlations between the MBSRQ total score, the MBSRQ subscale scores, dysfunctional attitudes, and the BDI score. The health orientation subscale scores showed significant differences according to gender. It was determined that body image was related to dysfunctional attitudes and depressive symptoms in aesthetic surgery patients during the preoperative period. Gender and age affect some dimensions of body image in these patients. In the light of our results, it can be said that determining body image, dysfunctional attitudes, and depressive symptoms while conducting the psychosocial evaluation of patients during the preoperative period may play a significant role in preventing possible complications and clarifying expectations.Öğe Comparison of Subjective Wellbeing and Positive Future Expectations in Between Working and Nonworking Adolescents in Turkey(Zamensalamati Publ Co, 2016) Karaca, Semra; Karakoc, Ayse; Bingol, Fadime; Eren, Nurhan; Andsoy, Isil IsikBackground: Wellbeing is one's evaluation and judgment of one's life. The aims of the current study were to examine the validity and reliability of the Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery Scale (ACSS) among Turkish persons. Methods: This methodological study was conducted with 584 participants. Content and construct validity studies were carried out to test the validity of the scale. The construct validity was analyzed with confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). For the scale's reliability, the techniques of internal consistency and consistency over time were used. Results: The Turkish adaptation of the ACSS was found to be valid, exhibiting a content validity index in the range of 0.80-1 on the item level, and 0.90 at the scale level. The scale displayed a three-factor structure. The total Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the scale was 0.92; the Cronbach's alpha coefficient for Factor 1 (Interpersonal) was 0.81; and 0.86 for Factor 2 (Social). The Cronbach alpha coefficient for Factor 3 (Consider) was 0.90. Conclusion: The ACSS is a valid and reliable tool that can be used in assessing acceptance of cosmetic surgery.
