THE EFFECT OF THE COPING ATTITUDES OF PEOPLE WITH STROKE ON QUALITY OF LIFE

Özet
Objectives: The aim of this study is to examine the effects of coping attitudes on quality of life in patient with stroke. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted between October 2018 and June 2019. The sample data were collected from 360 patients who had been admitted to neurology and physiotherapy clinics at a training and research university hospital and a government hospital in Karabuk. Data of the study were collected by the COPE inventory and the Stroke-Specific Quality of Life Scale. SPSS 25.0 program was used in the statistical analysis. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to determine the effect of coping attitudes on quality of life. P <0.05 and p <0.001 values were considered statistically significant. Results: Active coping (OR: 1.31 [95% CI 1.094–1.579]; p<0.05), restraint (OR: 1.173 [1.022–1.347]; p<0.05),humor(OR: 1.143 [1.023–1.276]; p<0.05) and alcohol/substance use(OR: 1.128 [1.008–1.262]; p<0.05), which are coping with the disease, were found to be significant predictors of on quality of life. Conclusion: Active coping, restraint, humor and alcohol / substance use are factors that negatively affect quality of life. When and how often these factors are used in stroke patients' lives should be examined carefully. it is recommended to develop stroke rehabilitation programs with training and multidisciplinary team to improve patient coping attitudes and quality of life. © 2020 Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University.
