Investigation of the Relationship Between Self-Perception and Social Media Attitude in Adolescents

Özet
Bu araştırma ergen bireylerin benlik algısı ve sosyal medya tutumu arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi amacıyla tanımlayıcı özellikte gerçekleştirildi. Araştırmanın örneklemini Kastamonu il merkezindeki Abdurrahmanpaşa Anadolu Lisesi’nde öğrenim gören 222 öğrenci oluşturdu. Veriler Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Sosyal Medya Tutum Ölçeği (SMTÖ) ve Sosyal Karşılaştırma Ölçeği (SKÖ) kullanılarak toplandı. Veriler toplanmadan önce araştırmaya katılmaya gönüllü olan öğrencilerin velilerinden izin alındı. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde tanımlayıcı istatistikler, t testi, One Way ANOVA, Tukey HSD testi ve pearson korelasyon analizi kullanıldı. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin; yaş ortalaması 15,26±1,1 olup, %61,7’si kadın, %39,2’si 10.sınıf düzeyinde olduğu belirlendi. SKÖ toplam puan ortalaması 83,20±12,34 ve SMTÖ toplam puan ortalaması 71,41±12,20 olarak belirlendi. SMTÖ ölçeğinin alt boyutlarına ait puan ortalamaları Sosyal Yetkinlik için 13,62±4,70, Paylaşım İhtiyacı için 27±7,40, Öğretmenlerle İlişki için 7,95±3.20, Sosyal İzolasyon için 13,18±4,67 olarak bulundu. SKÖ toplam puanı ile Sosyal Yetkinlik ve Sosyal izolasyon alt boyutları arasında negatif yönde anlamlı bir ilişki saptandı (p<0,05). Sonuç olarak, ergenlerin benlik algılarının olumlu olduğu ve sosyal medyaya ilişkin olumlu tutum sergiledikleri; benlik algısı ve sosyal medya tutumlarının birbiriyle ilişkili olduğu söylenebilir.
This study is carried out to investigate the relationship between self perception and social media attitude in adolescents in a descriptive way. The sample of the study consisted of 222 students attending in Abdurrahmanpaşa Anatolian High School in Kastamonu. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, Social Media Attitude Scale (SMAS) and Social Comparison Scale (SCS). Before the data were collected, the permission received from the parents of the students participating in the research voluntarily. Descriptive statistics, t-test, One Way ANOVA, Tukey HSD and Pearson Correlation analysis were used to evaluate the data. The average age of the students was 15,26±1,1, 61,7% female and 39,2% tenth grade. The average total score for SCS was 83,20±12,34 and SMAS was 71,41±12,20. The average subscale scores for Social Competence was 13,62±4,70, Need for Sharing was 27±7,40, Relationship with Teachers was 7,95±3.20, Social Isolation was 13,18±4,67. A significant negative correlation was found between the total scores of SCS with the subdimensions Social Competence and Social Isolation. As a result, adolescents' self-perception is positively and they take a positive attitude to social media; it can be said that self-perception and social media attitudes are interrelated."
