One of the cutter path strategies used in pocket milling in machining is spiral cutter path strategy. The correct selection of cutter path and cutting parameters affects directly upon manufacturing time, machining surface status and cost. The surface roughness that could be obtained from pocket milling by the different cutter parameters of spindle speed, feed rate, depth of cut and step over, and spiral cutter path strategy has been modelled by Genetic Programming (GP). Training and verification data sets have been compiled using real cutting data based on the related material and cutting conditions. Different experiments have been conducted with different genetic operators and a surface roughness model with a 98% performance value has been obtained based on the models generated. The results obtained show that GP approach produces successful models. Development of models based on different material and cutting conditions using GP will provide important contribution to manufacturing. The GP software prepared for modelling can be applied to inverse problems that the answers are known but the questions.en_US
