Özet
The need for materials with low density and high specific strength has significantly increased. The most important requirement is to use low-cost waste materials as reinforcement in the production of low-density metal matrix composites. For this purpose, pure magnesium (Mg) matrix composites were manufactured with different content of eggshell (ES) particles (2.5, 5 and 10 wt %) using the powder metallurgy route. The density, hardness, wear, and electrochemical corrosion behaviour of the samples were investigated in this study. The scanning electron microscope was used to reveal the wear and corrosion mechanisms. The results showed that Mg/10 wt% ES composite exhibited the best wear performance. However, the addition of ES particles adversely affected the corrosion properties. At the end of this study, the potential use of waste ES as reinforcement in the Mg matrix composite industry was reported.
